"Music-First Audiophile" Manifesto by John Darko

Still waiting for 95% of hobbyists to figure this out.
Well it seems it wasn't until recently that Darko figured that out himself, better late than never I guess. So lets hope he for once can convince his target audience about something that's actually makes a difference for once.

As someone who sells acoustic products, I sympathize with this statement, while keeping in mind that if you start with an AM clock radio as your electronic source, there's only so much I can do for you with room acoustics. Whatever the quality of your source is, that's as high as it can possibly go.

5. The Music-First Audiophile understands that sound quality is affected more by the listening room’s acoustic make-up than the electronics chain that feeds the loudspeakers.

It reads almost like a religious vow whereby Magister General Darko is making sure we follow the rules.
Laughable.

Quick question I don't know the answer to: Are their other hobbies that are so self-absorbed that they require things like manifestos?

Songs with DR of 3-5 mp3 makes me in tears when going on a high intensity aerobic run. It's wonderful what our brain chemistry react when you get so much oxygen and blood flow that you can psychologically feel things. Every beat feels connected to multiple senses of bones and muscles. It's quite a high that I can't replicate on home stereo with subs.

Who is 'she' in this manifesto!?
I'm picturing Jana Dagdagan (the only reason to watch his videos is to hear her at the start). I miss her video production work.

Economics.

Great question. I'm not familiar with any that spend so much time establishing the rules for the hobby or that are so divided.
In auto clubs and detailing forums there will be disagreements on how to best do things but it isn't usually an 'us and them' thing.

Economics.
What makes something a hobby and what makes it just an interest?
To me, a hobby involves activity and an interest is limited to reading and discussion. Building electronics and speakers was a hobby for me, while listening to music is an interest.

Yeah your own mood can do quite a lot of difference for sound quality, which is why expensive equipment can make you think it sounds better than it actually does, new-equipment-dopamins kicking that placebo. Stupid thing about that is that it's a really expensive placebo. So instead I'd suggest your keep on doing your aerobic run, or maybe try cannabis, there's nothing beating that when listening to your favourite music on your home stereo with subs imo!

Playing the horses, playing the market - that kind of activity makes economics a hobby. And, as we all should know, Marx made a manifesto.

The cheaper the gear, the more I enjoy the music - low expectation, no pressure , pure relaxation!
I've found myself happily listening to music on AM.

Music in the car (with or without singing) is a real joy. No idea why this is so !
I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that at that moment there are few other things you could be doing instead, so there is no energy spent on thinking about those things. Sitting at home and listening to music there are so many other things I should be doing. It is like staycations, you can't relax because all the chores and projects are looming right there.

I hadn't thought about it that way before. I'd always thought hobbies were things that brought you joy, but I do also see a lot of stress generated here.

I guess it depends on how active you are in the market. If you just buy and don't think about it again for months or years, it probably isn't hobby territory.

Jana used to have her own review channel years ago but had to stop due to the quite frankly, absolutely fu**ing horrendous and sexist commentary/messages that were left, it shook her up and i guess that’s why she’s been out of the online stuff.

Don’t blame her one bit, some of the stuff I've read/viewed on this forum oversteps my boundaries as to what I consider decent but I’ve learned to stay quiet, don’t wish to get banned from any more threads.
