Which is the best album to date?
My vote goes to
The Clash - London Calling

I bought that when it was released and have played it since then.

My vote goes to Alan Bown - Outward Bown - Their first album from 1969 great arrangement of ‘All along the watch tower’ amongst others. I play it every so often, probably 5 or 6 times a year.

Regards

William

OK it looks like OP changed the title of this thread and that changes my answer...

For the original question of best album to date I'll stick with Supertramp - Crime Of The Century.

But for the album that affected me most I'd have to say Black Sabbath - Volume 4.

I wouldn't know where to start, if I tried I'd change my mind every day.

"Best" is too difficult, implies it's "better" somehow than all others. I use "Deserted Island" album:

If you were stuck on a deserted island for a year and could only have one album to listen to, what would you want it to be?

Although I like many genres, Pink Floyd DSOTM is the one that I can say I never get tired of, and is still all these years later the most moving and brilliant single piece of work I have ever heard.

Action Replay!

The greatest UK pop & disco hits of 1978! When a compilation includes both Boney M *and* the Village People you know you struck gold.

I actually received this as a Christmas gift in 1978 & LOVED IT!!:D

I don't understand the question: is it a trick question somehow?

There have been millions of albums release: how could anyone, (over the age of 14), have a "best music album so far"?
I don't think is so hard question, I was thinking of what you think, not every album that is released. I've just heard a very very small percentage of all records, but to my knowledge London Calling is my selection.

No correct answer of course but if I had to pick one album to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Wasting Light - Foo Fighters. This answer has more to do with my life than with it being the "best" because it is clearly not.

Well gosh, let me think

On what criteria would I decide what was best album so far? Maybe the single album I listen to most often? I'm not even sure of that, but it might be the Emerson String Quartet's version of complete Shostakovich quartets, (from among thousands of Classical recordings I own). ...

Any sort of "Best Album" thread is going to be completely pointless, because the answer is Leftism by Leftfield.

If someone told me I could listen to only one album/artist or even genre for the rest of my life I'd ask for no music at all, knowing that the post-decision dissonance would drive me crazy. If they insisted I pick a record, I'd go for 4′33″;)
