MUM-10 STUDIO MONITORS

From the PLaP blog post:

MUM-10-Axial-Frequency-Response-1.png
1/6 Oct smoothing, also lacks the LF near field stitch. Response is down another octave or so from where it appears to roll off here.

If I recall correctly, this is at 90dB/1m.

A pair of MUM10-MB would sit very nice on my desk but I imagine I’d be pinned to the back wall, or a pair of MUM-8MB would probably be a better fit for my 40m2 room.;), if I ever find a bag of cash lying around I’ll be in touch.

Personally, I'd love to see a full spin of these. @JamesPDP if you think it's possible, I think we'd all love to see these (or any model, really!) sent to Amir or Erin.

We're really happy with how these have turned out, and yes, again the Klippel/spin thing is even more likely with these ones as they're our best performing model. What it HAS done, in designing the 10, is given us a wealth of information on how we can go back and improve the MUM-6 and MUM-8 with free DSP upgrades to our userbase.

Being able to update the crossover via a firmware update is very, very cool.

Did you try to make something better than Genelec, Neumann and ATC
Or just do your own thing?

It is a box with three expensive purifi and bliesma drivers and a hypex amp plate with dsp. The hypex system lets you free in settings like crossover, levels, delays, etc.

So in essence, you could make it yourself.

The difference is that the Hypex system is locked to prevent users breaking things. We have a custom remote update tool unique to us which allows for new DSP firmware and crossover updates.

Also our NC252 amplifier is modified to bring the noise floor 27dB lower, it’s not a standard off the shelf one.

Locked in what way?

Any user can configure these plate amps as they like and set crossover, levels, etc. to their liking. If not, these unit would be useless for DIY.

The crossover bits can be password protected, which prevents end users from mucking about with the crossovers, limiters, etc

I'd be interested to see a proper spin.
I don’t think we will ever see that. I have tried to engage in dialog with them about spinorama since they announced the first speaker, but it mostly seems like they are winging it and learning-by-doing, and are not really interested in science based speaker design.

getting it properly done before actually selling it and not needing to change it later is even better
Correct. However our advancements in measurement have significantly grown in the last 2 years to the point where the MUM-10 is the best measuring monitor so far. It makes sense to update the old models - but that's not to say there's anything wrong with them. I have never had a complaint of bad performance with the MUM-8, and every customer we have is exceptionally happy. I'd agree with your statement, but all you have to do is look through our reviews page and you can see the number of customers loving the MUM-8.

Bear in mind we are a two-person company designing everything on relatively miniscule budgets - as you said - learning, too. But we now have a great team of very experienced folk aiding us along the way when needed, which now is reflected in the MUM-10 being the best measuring model so far.

Most important is the customers, though. ALL of them are loving their monitors, so regardless of what the original MUM-8 SOS measurements showed, that is not reflective of how our customers perceive them. Nevertheless, surely going back to fix an issue, perceivable or not, is better than leaving it forever, no?

When we're ready to take them for a spin on the Klippel, we will. The MUM-10 might happen sooner rather than later, but no urgent rush. We have all the data we need.

We definitely wanted to compete with the big brands. And we are - the number of other three-lettered brand monitors we have replaced in the last year alone is nothing short of astonishing - way more than we thought it would ever be.

'seems like' - Based on what evidence? Thought we were all about science here. This sounds like feelings and projection, pure subjectivity.

'winging it' Again based on what evidence?

'learning-by-doing' - Congratulations you've discovered how we all learn and better ourselves. Be proud sweety.

'not really interested in science based speaker design.' Based on what evidence? Or is this just more projection and feelings.

Those are rhetorical questions btw. I know the answer.

Based on me asking for Spinoramas and measurements since before they even put out the first speaker, and them always, as in every single time, dodging the answer with marketing fluff. Just like what is happening in this thread. So back off sweety, and have some self-respect.

There are measurements above

You sound very angry and bitter.

They have zero obligation to jump through your hoops. How privileged and entitled can one person be.
