Hello friends,

Let me share with you an interesting 8-page web article on Yamaha speakers especially focusing on NS-5000, NS-1000M, NS-1000 (I have been using in this project thread), NS-2000, NS-1000X and the ultimate(!) NSX-10000. This article was written in December 2016 just after the launch of NS-5000.

Based on my I personal experience of attending Yamaha's promotion event of NS-5000, I fully agree with the writer of the article for rather disappointments on NS-5000.

I hope your web browser would properly translate the nice article written in Japanese into English.

BTW, I assume many of you are not familiar with the ultimate Yamaha's centenary model NSX-10000.

Hello friends,

Some of my dear ASR friends suggested me sharing my present audio setup on the thread entitled "The kit we bought, our current setups".
Accordingly, yesterday I posted about my latest setup, here (post #636) on that thread.

Regarding my setup post #636 in the thread entitled "The kit we bought, our current setups", two of my audio enthu friends in Japan cordially contacted me by e-mail asking for backside wiring (jungle?) photos of PCs-DACs-amplifiers and also backside photos of SPs; they said that the photos would be better to be added in that post.

Accordingly, I edited/added further four photos in the post #636 on that thread. I do hope the added four photos (also shared here as follows) would be quite self-explanatory...

Hello friends,

Judging from my recent several PM communications with dear audio enthu friends, it looks some of them still have a little bit frustration/confusion in understanding nature and role of ASIO4ALL in I/O with digital XO/EQ software "EKIO".

I added today, therefore, one diagram shown below in my post #297 and in my post #6;

Thank you for your continuing interests on my project thread.
The above hyperlink index is prepared also for my reminder purposes. I accordingly edited/added one paragraph at the top of my very first post.

I am also considering the feasibility and meanings of creating a new thread just showing the same hyperlink index...

I really like the flexibilities, structures, functions, design, and especially the "policy" of this ASR Forum web site!

For those who may be interested in digital software crossover/EQ within one PC and multi-driver (multi-way) multi-amplifier stereo audio system using fully synchronized multichannel DAC, I created a new thread and post sharing the above Hyperlink Index, expecting convenience for newcomers to ASR Forum and their easier awareness/attention on this thread...

I would highly appreciate hearing any feedback from you without hesitation, including wrong link, typo, better wordings, further additional hyperlink index, etc.

Just for our reference, interesting information exchange is in progress after this post on this remote thread regarding FOCUSRITE Scarlett 18i20 2nd gen (and 3rd gen) (CS4272 [x4] + CS4392) as well as MOTU UltraLite Mk5 (two ES9026pro); it looks both of them support simultaneous sync 10-channel DAC processes, even though the total sound quality would be a little bit inferior to OKTO DAC8PRO.

As per your commentary here. I quote you>

"I assume not only Sointuba but also Fyne Audio F-701 as well as KEF Q350 could be the candidate in this idea. Do you have any other SP suggestions? (please be careful about the physical alignment; they should sit on my sub-woofers Yamaha YST-SW1000, and the height should be less than ca. 60 cm, preferably less than 50 cm !!).

I will further discuss (and actually pursue?) this idea in my multichannel multi-amplifier stereo project thread; I will soon have a new post there on this idea, and your participation there will be highly appreciated."

That is a big difference in the retail expense between the KEF Q350 and the Fyne Audio F-701. As per the speaker recommendation I do not have a speaker in mind that fits the dimensions that you require, because I am not familiar with the recent speaker models.

An Interlude/Intermezzo of the thread (even though @Doodski already kindly commented as in above post)

Just thinking about possibility and feasibility of adding a pair of woofer (or a pair of completed SP as woofer) in present multi-channel multi-driver (multi-way) multi-amplifier stereo setup

The idea in this post came to me from our recent intensive audio listening sessions (shared here #438) using my present setup attended by one of my audio enthu friends who is a really serious jazz fanatic; at the end of our 8-hour audio listening session, he said; "Your present setup is really amazing and wonderful as a whole giving best ranked HiFi sound I ever heard. For your beloved classical music, the setup seems to be just perfect, I feel."

Then he continued; "For my beloved jazz music, especially rather authentic and exciting American jazz sessions, however, I would be a little bit happier if the sound by woofers, 50 Hz - 500 Hz, could be very slightly tighter, since I always love sharp drum sound, loud and transient kick drums."

Well, during the past a few months, I have been interested in MARCH AUDIO Sointuva speaker's reported/reviewed "clear, tight, rigid, solid, speedy, fast-transient" bass-low sound given by the three 6.5" (16.5 cm) low-range drivers, Purifi PTT6.5X04-NFA-01, one in the front and two (as passive/drone radiators) in the back panel. For your reference, you would please visit this remote thread on Sointuva where I partly participated.

I am just considering, therefore, possibility of adding pair of Sointuva "as such an excellent woofer" in my present setup (please find the latest setup here/post#416 and here/post#636); Sointuva (as woofer) will be driven by a dedicated amplifier in the clearly crossed-over 50 Hz- 500 Hz Fq range, simultaneously and/or alternatively with Yamaha NS-1000's 30 cm (11.8") cone woofer (JA-3058).

I can continue using the still amazingly excellent (the best ever?) vacuum vapor deposited Yamaha 8.8 cm (3.5") Beryllium midrange dome driver (JA-0801) and the 3 cm (1.8") Yamaha Beryllium tweeter (JA-0513, also vacuum vapor deposited); in my setup, I also have metal horn super tweeters Fostex T925A as well as the big/heavy L&R sub-woofers, Yamaha YST-SW1000 covering 15 Hz - 50 Hz with variable/adjustable gain.

(Of course, it should be a great fun and interests comparing the Yamaha's vapor-deposited Beryllium sound with SATORI TW29BNG-4 Beryllium sound in new Sointuva, though.)

My idea here is that I may use Sointuva (as woofer) and/or Yamaha's 30 cm woofer depending on the nature of the music source, e.g. Sointuva (as woofer) mainly for jazz and pops, Yamaha's 30 cm woofer mainly for classical, and so on.

My still just on-paper (on-computer) physical alignment simulations are as follows;
WS002580.JPG

WS002581.JPG

I also assume not only Sointuva but also FYNE AUDIO F-701 could be another candidate in this idea in terms of its reviewed nice transient bass-low (50 Hz - 500 Hz) sound quality and dimensions;
WS002583.JPG

WS002585.JPG

KEF Q350 may be another choice...

I will further search for this type (and dimensions) of speakers with reviewed and confirmed "nice transient bass-low (50 Hz - 500 Hz) sound quality".

That dome mid is a magical thing. I almost made a 3way with a used JA-801 mid. I still might.

Bliesma should have a new Be mid dome out soon. I am really curious to see how it stacks up to the JA-801.

I will further search for this type (and dimensions) of speakers with reviewed and confirmed
Do you want a complete speaker? Why not just a large woofer?

@headshake if you decide not to build and you want to sell the JA-801 I would be interested.

@dualazmak I picked up a pair of NS-1000M that were mostly in pretty good condition, but both woofers had suffered epoxy failure on the magnet mountings. After puzzling about getting them repaired (there is a company here in the USA which can do this correctly, including remagnetizing the magnets Hempomopotamus where the name refers to Hemp fiber woofer cones they make https://www.facebook.com/kaptainhempo ) I decided that since I prefer to triamp them , I will replace the 12 inch driver with a 10 inch and cross it over at 1000 Hz which should lower the distortion on the JA 801 considerably. I expect to use an RCF L10 series driver made in Italy.

Hello gene,

As you know, we have several craftsman SP repair/restore garage factories in Japan, some of them are really specialized on Yamaha SPs. It is very nice hearing you could find a similar factory in the US! I am looking forward to hearing your progress with your renovated NS-1000M.

I am also searching a pair of NS-1000x in good condition especially the carbon fiber woofers; of course the Be-midrange domes and Be-tweeters would be nice back-up ones for my NS-1000...

Do you want a complete speaker? Why not just a large woofer?

Hello headshake,

My NS-1000's 30 cm (11.8") woofers are still in very good condition, and they are perfectly fine for my classical music libraries.

As I wrote in my above post #451, I would like to have another woofers (or SP units as woofers) mainly for jazz and pops listening occasions, and such woofers should have "fast and vivid response" in 50 Hz - 500 Hz. I assume and believe that modern woofers (or well designed SP units) of 6.5" (16.5 cm) or 8.0" ( 20 cm) would be nice choice in this case, better than large 11.8" ones.

I am currently using nice and powerful Yamaha A-S3000 integrated amp directly driving 30 cm (11.8") woofers in 50 Hz - 500 Hz, and the AS-3000 has SP-A and SP-B outputs; I can easily switch to hear SP-A, SP-B, or even SP-A+SP-B!

You would please refer to my latest setup shared here and here.

Another factor in my concern on complete SPs would be the aesthetic element; I always need consensus and approval from our strict chief interior coordinator, my wife.;)

Lately there have been a lot of Yamaha speaker restoration videos appearing on you tube. Either Russian or Japanese people working on them with narration and subtitles in the respective languages.

Yes, I am aware of them, and enjoy watching. I am very happy that (at least here in Japan) we have so many craftsmen for repair and restoration for Yamaha SPs!

There is an emergency room physician whose ebay handle is "magicmarksy" who repairs Yamaha and other speakers.
He is in Clarksville Tennessee. Unlike some of the aforementioned, he does not make videos showing how he does things. I think he prefers to keep his techniques as "trade secrets".

As a follow-up of my above posts #451 and #455;

AMPHION Argon3S would be another choice "as compact and vivid woofer" covering 50 Hz - 500Hz; it has one 6.5" passive radiator in back panel.

In this case, the physical allignment simulations are;
WS002598.JPG

and
WS002607.JPG

I found fairly positive review article here, in Japanese though. Amphis already assigned official sole representative dealer in Japan.

I would highly appreciate hearing owner's subjective impression (and/or objective data) on AMPHION Argon3S, especially the bass-loe sound in 50 Hz - 500 Hz Fq zone.

Edit:
I could just find this review article giving subjective impression and objective data on AMPHION Argon3S.

It seems the low frequency drops @100Hz. Is that about average for the speakers you have been looking at?
