Hello, i got a quick and simple question, i wanna build a 5.1 System and wanna start out with a 2.1/3.1 System in the beginning i was planing on getting the Dali Oberon 5 with the matching Center speaker.

now i heard that alot of people say MTM 2 Way Center Speaker like the Dali Oberon Vocal are not great so my question is would it be possible or better in this case to go with a Bookshelf Speaker like the Oberon 1 as a center that has the matching tweeter size as the Oberon 5?

or would i be better of getting for example 3x Oberon 1 or 3 Bookshelf so they are 100% matching L/C/R?
or would Oberon 5 and Oberon 1 (as a center/same tweeter size) be okay and work better than the Oberon Vocal Center?

space is no issue i could place a bookshelf under my TV

thanks in advance :)

MTM for center produces "comb filtering" which is a problem, and the problem gets worse the further from the tweeter you get to one side. For wide seating for home theater, not good. If you want the details... https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/comb-filter-effects.25432/

People use them because they fit below screens. And most people don't know and don't notice.

If you have space, three identical speakers is a good way to go. Matched speakers are easier to integrate into the overall system. But given a tower for the 5, you likely want to go 1 or 3 for the center for ease of placement (unless you have an acoustically transparent screen). The 3 has the same crossover frequency as the 5, (2400, the 1 is 2800), so I would go with that.

I got three identical MTM speaker at the front. My TV is high on the wall and the center is standing upright like L+R. The result is a sound stage that seems to be independend of the speakers. In a second set up I have a dedicated center and usual 2-ways as L+R. The sound is not as natural as with the 3 being identical, some sounds seem to jump more on the stage. Not simple to describe.
If you can go for the "no compromise" MTM combination, you will sure like it. A MTM laid on it's side is a clear no-no, you sabotage the principle.
You may ask why these are often sold when it is clearly wrong?
Well, sales are more important then the actual sound the customer has at home and the normal buyer doesn't want to hear about comb filtering and any other boring scientific reality. The shop around the next corner will sell him a more conveniant, alternative science and get his money if you make things to complicated...

Yeah, i would rather have the "better" expierience or sound instead of a good or better looking MTM Center.

Since the Oberon 5 and Oberon 3 (with stands) are not far apart price wise right now i would prefer to get the Floorstanding ones would this still match fine with either oberon 1 or 3 as a center?

so the 3 is a better match even tho it has a bigger woofer? compared with the 1s/5s?
