I don't think this cubic design is bad.
The ESS AMT's acoustics are only truly good if, first, they are matched in pairs, and second, they have been precisely adjusted and calibrated for each specific speaker.
They're actually great drivers, but they have incredibly poor consistency from one unit to the next.

That is what I meant with ' individual ', though matched by Sarbeck.

Most speakers should be able to reproduce a tone around 130 Hz and just a hint of the second harmonic, meaning both the low-frequency cutoff and LF\MF crossover are almost always quite far away. But in a real room setup, it can fall into a room deep and sound weak. Or it can match the resonance and sound unnaturally exaggerated

Somewhere in the ASR forums, an older member (@sarumbear) had shared with us an awesome recording.
iirc, it was one of those portable, pro-grade, dual-MIC'd Sony digital recorders that he had used to record with.
The recording is directly from his backyard... that sounded like it leads to some windy Aussie jungle...
I don't know if it would be proper to re-share his 32MB *.wav file that I was allowed to snag.
