I'm looking to buy new speakers and this topic is perfect because design is just as important to me as sound quality. A lot of people recommend the KEF LS50 Wireless or some of the Sonus Faber bookshelf models because they look like works of art in a modern living room. For me, the ultimate expectation is to find something that has a super clean, minimalist design but still delivers rich sound without having to hide a massive, ugly subwoofer under the table. If I'm going to spend a lot of money on high-end audio, I want them to look beautiful even when they're turned off

No doubt! I think looking good is important too. I never found KEF to look good tho tbh.

Many here don't care about the aesthetics of their speakers, but since I have to use my living room as my listening room, the aesthetics are important... and I really don't have extra space for a pair of subwoofers. I found the Dutch & Dutch 8C the perfect blend of high performance, clean simple aesthetics, and a compact size that can fit into my room without dominating it.

That is historical, but not beautiful at all ... and acoustically , ehem, difficult ... (don't ask why I know ... AMT's are very individual parts).

I actually can’t stand the look of subwoofers.
Every single one of them is an eyesore.
When I had a couple of subwoofers I managed to hide one behind the listening sofa at least. (but they were still a headache to place and set up… I get subjectively beautifully smooth sound from my floor standing speakers and enough bass for my taste, without subwoofers. Same for my home theatre system for that matter).

They have a lower F3 than my last speakers had even with their integrated 15" JBL subwoofers.
FWIW: As I have mentioned elsewhere, the D&D8Cs were the result of downsizing. It really turned out to be a win-win.

In the early ‘70s I worked part time in a music store that sold pianos, organs, band instruments, etc. There was almost always someone playing a piano somewhere in the store.

One day I walked into a stereo/hifi store to browse. I thought I heard a piano playing, and for an instant, looked for the piano. Turned out, it was whatever version of that AMT that was current then. That’s the only time I’ve been fooled like that.

I don't think this cubic design is bad.
The ESS AMT's acoustics are only truly good if, first, they are matched in pairs, and second, they have been precisely adjusted and calibrated for each specific speaker.
They're actually great drivers, but they have incredibly poor consistency from one unit to the next.
