Geithain is quiet reputed in Germany and eastern Europe. They were long hidden behind the iron curtain, but are since the 1970's one of (east-)German's top audio companies. They don't really market outside Europe altough so they are not so known in the US, but that is changing the last decade as they get popular as studio monitors. I also don't thinnk they are distributed outside Europe altough.

Yes, but it's known as grey import, this means no support outside the EU as Vintage King imported those themselves on own risk. And it causes support issues for US customers. This was extensivly disccussed on gearspace (forum for audio production equipment) in recent years. Geithain themselves are not interested in exporting to the US and don't offer support over there.

This looks like someone veneered a couple of 15" subwoofers, cut the baffle off a pair of bookshelf speakers, and clipped them onto the front of the subwoofers.

Yes but that changes the price from 8500 euro a pair to 18.000. That sub is very expensive. Although you can use any sub.

I am thinking of trading in my Kef LS60 for these.

The MEG 901 is a pretty impressive cardioid speaker IME
