Why is it so bright? I mean, looking at the measurements that is a seriously bright sounding speaker.

They sure don‘t sound bright at all.
Don‘t forget, they’re not the ubiquitous multiway quasi point source design.
These full range line sources are 2,35m high, launch cylindrical wavefronts into the room and the measurement has more of a near-field character.
They energize the room more evenly, thus offer a very wide listening window.

So it is with the volume.

It would be fun to hear a pair of 8071s where the person who fixed them invested in more qualitative bass drivers than the bass drivers you usually see in them these days. But okay, if you want to get really good sound, it's not enough to just pop a random high-quality 10 inch bass driver into them. It takes more than that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and isn't a constant.
When I first saw those speakers 15-20 years ago, I thought they were spectacular looking. Today, not so much.

I’m not commenting that they aren’t attractive, necessarily.
Just that the horn has a certain look to it. Perhaps one could refer to it as yonnic? Maybe vulvic?

Then why do you have such excessive treble at your listening position? I can see it being less bright in the rest of the room, but where you measured it's bright. Perhaps you are a little bit older and have lost much of your higher frequency hearing and don't notice?

I also use flat curve to the top in my listening position and it's not bright as long as the bass is boosted below 200Hz or so

BTW, my daughter and her friends, all in the early to late twenties with good hearing, always commented very enthusiastically about the sound, even when listening to some of their compressed-to-oblivion tracks.

You want me to be really sarcastic? I can.

My wife also compliments my system when I show off a new component. She can even hear the difference all the way from the kitchen.

But its not meant to be sarcastic, because I believe we also have seen these preferences in headphones also. Where older people prefer a little bit more treble.

I'd hardly call that excessive treble. It's aroundb3-4 dB down on average compared to the midrange. I think people are too accustomed to seing a 10 dB downward sloping Harman curve for listening position FR.

Looks like someone has hornitis, a terrible growth that occurs on audio systems that causes perceptions of nirvana in those individuals foolish enough place themselves in front of the diseased flowers
