The Piccolo and it's larger siblings sound amazing!! The largest one is the only time I've EVER heard a planar make a room shudder with impact. It was very impressive...

I may have discovered the opposite of "most beautiful":

From a local classified ad, 250 euromoneys the pair. Model "Santo Domingo 004" and over 2000 German moneys the pair in the late 70s(!).

Apparently the designer, a certain *cough* Austrian artist called Hans Deutsch of notorious and questionable fame, is a trained singer turned speaker "engineer" who screwed all conventional physics and wisdom and decided to design his speakers solely "by ear".

Strong consensus in the German hifi scene seems to boil down to "love them, or hate them - really hate them".

Seems like those sound exactly as they look. All over the place. Can't confirm personally, as I decided to not pursue that offer and look for more conventional options instead. Although I must admit, I was tempted for a minute or two to just go there. I do appreciate absurdity after all, and my money isn't endless. Meeting a fellow enthusiast and having a coffee while blasting music is always a delight.

But still, the most basic research revealed utter hilarity, and not in a good way. File under: lesson in obscure hifi history :D

Whoa... WHOA!! That speaker needs a team of engineers and thousands of hours of R and D just to be terrible. Like a bad dream after way too much cold medicine. Like someone took drawings of speakers from three different children and made a collage. So beyond wrong, my head might explode. WT actual F!

Always wanted to hear the AlsyVox, but never at any of the shows I have attended, plus only a single dealer in the US … rare birds

Same here. And I think they are quite attractive for panel speakers as well.

There is a homepage for the current models. They look unspectacular, but the philosophy behind is somewhat controversial:

"Without resonances, there cannot be a lifelike sound!"

Holy shit, I wasn't even aware they/him still exist. As we like to say here, "he's still alive? Astonishing." :D

All the more astonishing that this "John German" dude is still active. He must be seriously old by now, with horribly deteriorated hearing. Lol!

As y'all may or may not have gathered by now, I'm currently shopping for good, but affordable used speakers. So far, some Canton Reference 9 DC or comparable models look like an option. For around 600 moneys the pair. Certainly better than those from ancient hifi obscurity.

Does anyone understand the difference between “Nomimal Load” and “Music Load”? The second always is the double of the other...
