Dinah Washington, "That Sunday, That Summer, 1963":

Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend.
Writer of beautiful songs?!? ;)
Heck, yeah. :)
I'll have more to say about this (I know, inconceivable, right?) but just to provide a little evidence in my defense, this early demo for an early 'OO song, So Sad About Us, should suffice. It is way too bad that it's incomplete.

The version from Scoop -- it segues into a rather unremarkable synthesizer demo/exercise ("Brrr"), but opens with a charming :p spoken intro.

If you prefer to skip the intro & outro, here's just the demo (with but a snippet of gibberish from Brr at the end).

Grateful Dead, Goin' Down the Road Feeling Bad. Live at the Fillmore East, New York City, April 1971.

Magical.
Reminded me of John Renbourn, speaking of which, "The Pelican" from 1979:

Speaking of Renbourn, his partner in Pentangle, Bert Jansch, Rosemary Lane, 1971:

Minnie Riperton - Lovin' You. Foreshadowing stunt vocalists like Mariah Carey or Celine Dion but this is actually a good song ...

Love that song, just picked up a mint copy on vinyl, did not know till a few years ago. Maya Rudolph of SNL fame is her daughter.

Fleetwood Mac, Albatross, 1968:

Top Bottom
