You all of course know Jerry Douglas as the best dobro player in the world. But I didn't see his home studio until I saw this video today. It's wonderful. It's the perfect balance of so many things: chaos and order, diffusion and absorption, efficiency and decoration, serious workshop and fun playground.

Skip the first 3 minutes to get to his studio, the guitar turnings and demos.

The Hipshot DoubleShot bridge is completely new to me. Oh my! I do not want to have to guitar with one of those in tune.

Can you do better? Pics and/or videos please! Home studio. Home.

ASR member @chopin_guy88 made quite an impression here but the aesthetic is a lot different from Jerry Douglas'.

Personally I think Douglas' room looks a bit too chaotic (is the pool cue decorative or he just doesn't have a better place to keep it?) but he sure can play guitar.
Chaos like that makes me calm. Unfortunately it drives my wife nuts.

Yeah, a little too chaotic for me. mind you, I thrive on chaos.

But, hey -- he is an incredible player!
And I do love the sound of the dobro.

Completely purposeful control and organization clearly has enormous power. Otoh, eliminating hazard removes certain possibilities from creative processes or situations. What blend of the two you want depends what you're doing. Developing software for medical equipment isn't the same as avant garde musical improvisation.

The other thing is dusting. A home studio that looks like a biolab is much easier to clean than Douglas' or my own studio (that I'm too embarrassed to photograph). Otoh, according to Quentin Crisp, "There is no need to do any housework at all. After the first four years the dirt doesn't get any worse." Unfortunately I haven't been tough enough to go that long without dusting my work station. If you don't open windows and use filtered air con that might help.

This man is one of my musical heroes for sure, thanks for posting this.

I once had a comment on Facebook with "Likes" from both Jerry Douglas and Dan Tyminski. I wanted to frame it. :)

The studio is is a jumble and probably doesn't sound "great", but who cares?

Next best thing: screenshot it and post it in this thread!

It's got Jerry Douglas in it so I kinda suspect it does sound great :P
