OK, I gotta call out some real laziness on the part of this manufacturer. That box behind the front panel is nothing more than a standard issue Bud Box which has had some laser etching done!
I should sell some of my home projects which use these boxes for really big bucks.

Those are laser etched into the metal sides and the overall box has been grained. This is a Bud Box or the Hammond equivalent. I've worked with enough of these things to know one when I see it. There's also the possibility that they contracted BUD or Hammond to supply them already etched and grained.
Surely that means the amp is cheaper for it?
I never said that and I'm sure the amp is of very high quality. I have the utmost respect for Western Electric. I was just calling out the use of an off-the-shelf project box which most DIYers are thoroughly familiar with. Given that all the rest of the metal work appears an original design, the box kind of sticks out. I can't unsee it once I've seen it. Please don't read things into my posts which I don't explicitly state.Surely that means the amp is cheaper for it?
