I wanted to create this thread to discuss all IEMs, headphones, dongles and all products from Moondrop as they are constantly releasing new models, plus discussing the current and previous IEMs too.

Yesterday I received my Blessing2: Dusk and had a first listen, wow, so balanced! The hype is real. I use this website to sweep frequencies and could only detect the slight peak in 5.8 kHz and the massive dip above 10 kHz, exactly as measured comparatively in this busy graph here. Somewhat large sticking outside the ear but very comfortable. Loved it already.

And today I see they released Quarks DSP for 15 usd, with mic and USB-C. A shame they did not use the DSP to tame the 2.7 kHz, though they did increase the bass response.

I got a Chu recently to dip my toes into IEMs. I overall like how they sound, especially when listening to mostly instruments, I definitely noticed things that I didn't before. But there seems to be something going on with female vocals. They kinda sound... podcasty? If that makes sense? I don't know if that's an issue with seal or insertion depth.

I'm thinking about getting new tips because the one that fits hurts after a while. I'm thinking either Complys or Xelastec, mostly for comfort reasons (will they change the sound?), or do I just break in the bundled tips?

What is the software like to tune the Quarks? Specifically on a computer? Or is it just like a flat text file one edits?

Decided to pull the trigger on the variations when they were on sale, seem to be the only iem that matches the harmon target in the sub to mid bass.

Chu is somewhat lean on bass and a little hot in the treble area. I just recently got the 7Hz Salnotes Zero and it fixes these, with worst chassis but better cable, for the same price.

On Windows, search for Equalizer APO or EAPO here on ASR, several threads about it.

I love the Dusk frequency response better than Harman's. I wish they released a Variations with Dusk tonality, would be great. But then their S8 seems to be just that, with lots of BAs and higher price though instead of the tribid configuration from Variations.

I thought the idea behind the Quarks DSP was that the filters could be tweaked onboard using its hardware dsp..? If this is the case, I am wondering if there is a way to change that without using some kind of companion phone app (so it could be done on a computer).

The Blessing 2 shaped Moondrops are, for me, far superior to the rest. Because that shape suits my ears it makes them so much easier to listen to.

I don't think users can tweak it, I think it is more a factory preset and that's it. For 15 usd they couldn't squeeze a Bluetooth chip and support an app as well. Would be great though.

So Chu mk 2

I do understand in that market, new / refreshed products are the way to keep sales up but the pace really is a bit tiring (same with the electronics from Topping et al).

The manufacturer/ reviewer cycle is no doubt to blame. Dont provide any product to them to review- dont get the proverbial column inches- consumer moves attention to newer gew gaws reviewers do have. Shame really.

I get the diversification into dongles and over-ears. If well done and well received , they could drive actual growth. But churning out endless derivatives of the Chu/ Starfield families just seems a bit rat race.

Hi

I have seen noticed the same with HifiMan, Topping , SMSL and others... their lineups are confusing, with a never ending flow of models. Not a marketing specialist but this leads to utter confusion IMO. Seem to be cultural.
I am sticking to the TCZ for now until something better comes out at a better price. Still not a fan of IEMs; the sound can be glorious for a small cash outlay but the health concerns are, to me, real.

Peace

Re: health concerns I actually find that I get better isolation with decent iems than the average headphone, so can play quieter. At least it feels that way, I haven’t gone to any effort to validate that with proper data.

Staying in the spirit of this thread, I bought a 3.5 dawn. It wouldn’t function properly with the link application on iOS or android, so shenzhen have sent another which I should have soon. My observation is that the usb cable may not be that resilient but time will tell.

Edit: I also shipped one to @amirm, hoping it made it there.

Have been listen Dawn 3.5 few months time to time. Can't hear any difference with my headphones (HE400se, HD600) compared to DX3Pro+ except slightly less volume.
