Moondrop Chu II DSP - EQ Review

It may be because your point H) could be rewritten the other way:

H) UAPP seem to have problems with many of the most popular Android phones and the Moondrop Chu II DSPs for which many of the participants in this discussion (except a few) would like to find a solution because they bought them and would like to use them with all the features they are designed for.

After-all, you said that you experienced the exact same issue with FreeDSP: it also requires a disconnect/reconnecter after using UAPP to receive or make phone calls.

Isn’t more a UAPP issue?
No: the FreeDSP cable works with my S22 (make/receive calls and listen CD quality music).

The CDSP cable doesn't work with my S22: I can't make/receive calls (the same happens, as I can read from othes post, with A53, S20, S21, S23, S24).
Even without UAPP installed. This is a big problem (at least for me).

There are still some problems with UAPP and FreeDSP cable.

I will understand if the problem is UAPP (and not the CDSP cable) when (or if) I will find another Hi-Res player that works well with the Chu II DSP and does not lock the Moondrop DSP cables.

Or if I will find other ADC/DAC cables that work with UAPP.

I will try the Meizu HiFi cable and the Meizu HiFi Pro which are both ADC/DAC cables, but UAC 2.0.

This is the reason why I initially posted in this thread: to know if other users had done some tests before me to find a solution to these problems and not to argue if that is the right thread to ask other people about a working problem of the Chu II DSP.

I found some post very interesting (and helping to indirectly chat with Moondrop Support):
- from Eary (about other Samsung models affected by the CDSP cable problems: I'm not alone in the world to face these problems...)
- from you (CedarX):
1. UAC 1.0 devices?
2. Some KTmicro chips (e.g. KT210)?
but I don't own any UAC 1.0 ADC/DAC USB device to test and neither KT210 devices to try.

So the CDSP can't let you meke\receive calls on S22 at all, with or without UAPP installed, with or without any other app taking direct access of the USB dac.
So the issue seems to be the looked in Samsung OS compatibility with CDSP chipset.

Given the previous stance, here i understand that you are referring to other phones than S22, where CDSP works fine until you launch UAPP and give direct control to it, then you have to disconnect and reconnect the CDSP to continue making calls. Did you try the new options in UAPP about freeing usb driver that I linked some posts earlier? Otherwise you can try Hiby music player, it's free and has usb direct access.

hi everyone I'm new to iem.
two weeks ago I bought chu 2 and I have the same problem phone calls sound like robot can't understand anything but they work fine on other apps like YouTube music media.
my question is does the Freedsp cable solve the problem?
my phone is s21 ultra

The problem is the incompatibility between the CDSP cable and many Samsung models: I don't know if it's a hardware problem, a Samsung SW problem or a Moondrop FW problem. I think it would be useful for Moondrop to understand if the problem can be solved with a FW update because Samsung alone represents about 33% of the Android phone market.

I tried your settings, but doesn't change anything.
I tried the Meizu HiFi DAC and Meizu HiFi DAC Pro and both work with my S22, so I can make calls.
But always the same problems with UAPP.
I tried Neutron and it work w/o blocking the phone calls with all the DAC/HPA and with all phones I tried.
So it seems to be a UAPP problem.
The Moondrop FreeDSP work with my S22 (I can use the Chu II+FreeDSP to make calls), but always the same problem with UAPP, just like with the other phones I tried.

The Moondrop FreeDSP cable works with my S22. The CDSP cable dosn't.
With FreeDSP cable I can make phone calls and listen Hi-Res music with Neutron.
Changing UAPP with Neutron, it seems that all problems are solved, but the FreeDSP cable doesn't work @88.2/24, and for me it's a big problem.
The FreeDSP cable is bulkier than the CDSP cable.
The FreeDSP cable costs 5 times the CDSP cable bought with the Chu IIs.

I think it's a Samsung problem because I tried truthear gate and it didn't work either.
I also tried both chu2 and gate on Honor phone and it worked on phone calls no problem.
I don't ues any specific app for music just youtube Spotify and phone calls.
few days ago ordered freedsp cable and I hope it'll work.

Samsung is a very large manufacturer, large enough to do their own “thing” (learned it from Apple?). I bet they’ll say it’s not their problem, but it’s on the OEMs to make sure their products work with Samsung phones. So in a way, it becomes a Moondrop problem (if they care about the Samsung users base), or KTmicro (the Chu-II / CDSP chip supplier)…

Great find! It seems the UAPP dev’s have some work to do! ;)

It's clearly an idiosyncrasy between Samsung Android implementation and CDSP codec, KTmicro if I remember well. If other KTmicro dongles work well with Samsung phones then yes, Moondrop is to blame, otherwise Samsung is to blame. Sadly in both cases I don't see many chances it to be solved.

If all settings for releasing usb in UAPP don't work, again, I don't see much more can be done. As said I'm not an expert of the argument but dealing with direct control of usb driver in Android is not something very solid and stable and this too varies from phones to phones. Maybe you can try UAPP internal hi-res driver, that tries to play files at native sample rate using the internal dac of the phone, or even the similar option of native sample rate for the Android native audio driver, but probably it's something best to be asked on UAPP support forum. I previously mentioned Hiby music player, it also has usb direct access, did you try it? Perhaps better luck.
I never used Neutron but it seems to me that it doesn't have usb direct access, so obviously no issue but lack of what you need.

"Hello, this is a Samsung mobile phone compatibility problem."
this is moondrop reply to me.
they need to be more clear about what is compatible or not on their site.

Its not like Samsung is an unknown, obscure, smart phone supplier… :p

I know... but don't u think that Moondrop and truthear and other iem companies should like hit up Samsung work this issue out because most android users have Samsung phones I'm not like expert on this stuff it's my first time trying iem and they sound way batter than regular earbuds I really like them but it's a shame that it's didn't work as it suppose to.

Shame the app is so buggy. Always crashing or freezing, not updating the selected profile, losing connection with the earphones, entailing a force close and multiple removals and re-insertions of the USB-C connector to try and get a profile applied.

It’s still this.

I’ve kept my Chu II DSP in a drawer for a while, and thought I’d fish them out and try using them again. I’m normally an iPhone user, but keep a ‘blank’ Android phone around for connection to FiiO, Moondrop etc devices, ‘cos of course their apps want to harvest all of your data. Plugged the Chu II into the phone to check what EQ profile was applied, and it took a good five minutes of the app crashing, force quitting and plugging / unplugging the IEMs to check.

Hello!

I've bought the IEM several weeks ago and I'm wondering if there is a way to decrease their minimal volume? They are too loud! Basically I need to keep Windows volume at 0 and moreover lower in-app volume to about 30%.

I guess it is a software problem and usb-c form factor issues. On my android phone (Pixel 7a) they are also loud, but at the minimal volume it's bearable.

Probably someone has experienced the same problem? Any information would be appreciated.

For Windows you can try Equalizer APO, just add a preamp and input a negative number. For Android there is Wavelet (you can adjust the volume in the channel balance setting, maybe also the compressor gain setting with ratio set to 1:1), I'm not sure what is available for iPhone though since I don't have one.
