Probably for the best. Just wait for the HTP-2.
It's going to be a very long wait, just buy a HTP-1 and start enjoying it.

Considering HTP-1 is still top-of-the-game features-wise except for ART*, I'm not sure what a new model would bring at this point. Maybe Dante? That's only potentially useful* thing that seems to be absent. I guess 20 channels (to run 9.1.6 with 4 subs) is also on some people's wishlist, but I don't see that as likely in this price range. Otherwise it seems the main reason to make a new model is just to change up the faceplate a bit.
*Some will lament the absence of HDMI 2.1 (which seems like a fairly meaningless spec at this point) or some DST-X variant (also largely irrelevant, given that nobody streams content using that format).
There will be no HTP-2, only upgrades to the HTP-1. This was announced by Monoprice years ago.

How did they propose they’d be updating? Like a hardware module?
Just to clarify, as far as I know, there have been no announcements regarding upgrades installed by end users. The simplest upgrade would be a new HDMI board, since that one sits on top of everything else (possibly negated by a power supply upgrade if that should be necessary). There's already a DSP board with 2 of the same chips available from their source (MDS), but apparently, there's no urgent need to upgrade with "only" 16 channels.

So in the video rvsixer posted, Hobie says that he doesn't want to make an HTP-2. Can you cite your sources?

I'm really hoping they formally announce DL ART and upgrade to the newest DSU which handles wides better.
Haven't they (Hobie) already done that on AVS? i.e. DL ART is in development and coming and DSU is not.
To clarify: DTS:X Pro and DL ART are coming first, and a DSU update probably(?) later.

Not officially. No Dirac press release just forum banter.
I think confirmation from Hobie is as official as it's gonna get. Maybe Dirac puts out a press release or links to a promotional YouTube video after it's released, maybe not.
Why is HDMI 2.1 not a meaningful requirement? I am looking for a processor/receiver that has 2.1 IOs to be able to pass through 4K HDR from my BD player, Consoles, Gaming PC to my TV/Projector.

And for those that do need HDMI 2.1, it can be worked around using other devices. I'm using an HDFury Vrroom to pass 4K/120 to my projector for PC gaming and 8K for HTPC movies. HDMI 2.1 on the HTP-1 would be nice as it would allow me to remove the HDFury from my chain but I can live without it.

I've used a ThenAudio (sister company to HDFury) SHARC ($220). A nicer looking unit is the HDFury Arcana ($350). The Cadillac product is the Vrroom which is great for projectors is ($550).
