Super pumped to try out ART! Didn't know for sure this device was capable. Still love my HTP-1 since 2 years ago. Shocked the price hasn't risen with inflation. It's easily worth twice the asking price!
Does the support stereo using surround sound speakers?
EX: All of the speakers on the left play the left channel, and all of the speakers on the right play the right channel.
Need something that can do music in stereo or Dolby Atmos and make both of them as immersive as possible, and hopefully not have to adjust the volume each time.

Thanks, I see that it can upmix with the demo mode that I've been playing with. I just don't know what the stereo upmix does and if I can select specific speakers or not.
The Monoprice HTP-1 does support dual stereo/stereo upmix to surround sound, and uses all the speakers on the left and the right.
From the manual if anyone else runs into the question of the HTP-1 supporting stereo playback using all the speakers in a surround sound system:
"All channel stereo
The input signal is mixed down to stereo and the same left and right channels
are applied to all of the speakers on the left and right, respectively. A mono
mix is routed to the center channel."

If I get this I'll need an ADC to work with the 7271 subwoofer I use, but that will probably still be cheaper and it seems the Monoprice has more users programming web interfaces and encouraging more firmware updates vs the JBL?
Also like that it does dynamic volume based on equal loudness curves... JBL seems to do Dolby dynamic volume which won't work for stereo music.
But the SDP55 supports Dante so I don't have to worry about noise and hiss that might come through with the HTP-1 or is it silent when connected to active speakers?
Might also be missing out on something that does multiple zones which I'm not seeing in the manual? (Have zone 1 play the video game audio and then zone 2 play music from a Chromecast while playing smash bros, etc.)

The SDP 58 is out and already supports HDMI 2.1 - not sure when the SDP-55 will be / was discontinued. Since DL ART has now been announced for the HTP-1, there's the question if the SDP-5[58] will ever get it. I believe over at avsforum someone heard from JBL support that it wouldn't, but that was just days after DL ART was announced by Dirac. If you want Dante, get the JBL - given all your Genelec toys, I'd say that's a strong argument. If you like the hackability of the HTP-1's firmware, and you want DL ART, get the Monolith. Not sure if the zones on the JBL work as you described, since the chromecast music would be playing on a separate amp + speakers.
HTP-1 offers Z1 downmix only. This means no Z2 switching or volume control.
The SDP-55/58 has a separate dedicated DSP for Z2 so offers Z2 switching, volume control and Z2 HDMI; be aware there is no Z2 Dante support. Beyond most receivers the separate DSP means it has completely independent HDMI support with independent Z2 audio decode, eg. you can use HDMI source A in the main zone whilst Z2 is fed a separate HDMI source B bitstream which is decoded and downmixed by the Z2 DSP (eg. I have tried Atmos in Z1 and Z2 being fed multichannel DSD from a different input which it decodes and downmixes correctly). Unfortunately integrated streaming support for Z2 is not as good and integrated Chromecast supports only 1 zone and will assume Z1 and switch Z1 to the streaming input. If you have a separate Chromecast source (eg. Chromecast dongle) it would work fine.
I have a separate streaming dongle I'd be using in both cases.
Just want to be able to switch a preset or something and have my rear surrounds become a different zone with a different input to listen to music while playing certain games. Not sure if it's intended to be used like that. Might just have to get a source selector for some speakers and feed them the chromecast directly.
Z2 is not intended to be used that way on the JBL or most mainstream units. Pretty sure Storm Audio natively support that scenario.
There never was real performance issues. Also notice that after the review ASR's AVR/AVP test score opinions has changed and nowadays much lower performance units don't get headless panthers.
It does, because Dirac is better than ARC, certainly if you get DLBC and set it up properly, and possibly even more so if/when DL ART becomes available. Whether or not you'll like it better is an entirely different question.
