Just curious if some of you have been inspired by the Hyphn for DIY design or if there's potentially useful concepts in there for DIY? Or is this just basically a pointless gimmick design considering cost/benefits?

Featuring the new M-Array high- and mid-frequency driver array and four force-cancelled 8” bass drivers per speaker

Lots of interesting design features, but I was mainly curious about the notion of having opposing drivers pointing towards each other, and having the sound effectively radiate from the side of the drivers. Must act as omnidirectional, but not really, since it's not omni in the horizontal plane, but the vertical plane! Many speaker boxes already have side firing woofers, but this must result in a more point like source than typical arrangement... Somewhat reminiscent of Genelec's The Ones with indirect 'ported' bass drivers.

Anyway, just interested in hearing the thoughts of more knowledgeable people than me on the topic! :)

[edit] Gah! Fixed Kef title thanks Kal!

After some thought, I'm leaning towards pointless... Must be inefficient; pretty sure bass drivers facing each other like that is less efficient than forward facing... You basically need 4 bass drivers per speaker to simulate what's effectively a 'bass MTM' arrangement. 8 bass drivers = cost. Could even have 2 drivers forward facing and 2 rear facing in same canceling config; again, would have resulted in MTM-like config, probably not mind-blowing difference though? *shrug*

Anyway, there's likely some positives too. But the omni aspect, the 2 pillar design, complexity to design, to build, bang for the buck, etc., would all likely end up making the thing more trouble than it's worth... So I doubt we'll get any similar DIY project. Maybe some ambitious soul will take up the challenge, but at what cost? Just doesn't seem very reasonable to me...

Plus, reading this, really doesn't seem that like a Kef or whatnot, where they're even trying to accurately reproduce the music.. (below translation)
In Hyphn it is also special, but in a more original and refined way. It does not burden the music or support it monotonously, it participates somewhat on its own terms, but it does not weaken coherence, does not create problems with "communication", and quite often makes itself felt with impressive, low extensions.

When this style suits the listener, Monitor Audo Hyphn will work well on any occasion and will be musically very universal. When they differ from this taste, when they irritate and disturb people with something, it will be difficult to find an "appropriate" recording.

So I wouldn't recommend buying these loudspeakers blindly (theoretically you shouldn't buy them without hearing them, but... the risk varies), but I sincerely recommend getting to know them, because they are unique - both visually and in sound - and therefore have a chance to win a lot. competitions".

Positioning Hyphn in the hierarchy of the best loudspeakers is quite difficult due to its unconventional properties. These are spectacular speakers, but they don't do everything perfectly.
