MoFi Sourcepoint V10 Master Edition

Sometimes it's for a greener path and sometimes it's the pursuit of passion unleashed.
MY gut tells me the latter. The 888's and V10's are phenomenal. But let's be honest, there's always a corporate/financial cloud overhanging an engineer's dream.

Let's see what happens.

It seemed to me he really got to have some fun with the Mofi's design, I assume that attracted him to the experience- designing the coaxial magnet array was pretty trick. With that kind of engineering talent I would expect him to want a new challenge and Mofi may have already run its course. What I would wonder is whether the Cerretas have enough money to fund the kind of engineering resources Andrew is capable of using. If AJ were at somewhere like Harman or KEF and had more budget, would they provide enough funding to get over some kind of hump and allow AJ to break out into really cool designs.

It seemed to me that Andrew was almost like a contract engineer hired to build out a speaker line and then move on. Of course, I'm making all of that up with no real knowledge.

I plan to dye my silver/gray grilles so will report back here when I do.

I think in this day in age, no one should have any company loyalty. If that means you need to move around every so often for the sake of getting pay as much as possible, that is the way.

Or unless I already made plenty of money and don't need the money, sure, I'll follow my hopes, dreams and passion away. But hope, dreams and passion don't pay no bills.

Well at least for me, that is.

To me this timing makes sense.
I’ve always understood Andrew to be essentially an engineer for hire… sort of a journey man.

For MO-FI, it looks like he was particularly interested in that specific concentric driver speaker with a bit of an old school feel.
Seems to me he sort of produced all the type of models that makes sense based on that design. Time to move on.

Not that I’d be in the market for this, but from the website, it looks like the new product is going for:

high efficiency, exceptional voicing, and deep bass.”

“Andrew had been dreaming about a speaker design that he had yet to attempt. He wanted to blend incredible sound with an aesthetic to complement stylish homes.”

I’m curious to see what this looks like.

That's how I see it, he joined to do this project, and when it's done move on to the next thing. Looks like he's done a very good job, a great range of speakers, that don't really need improving.

Could the new speakers be the ones shown in the background of this photo from their website?

Or does anybody recognize those concentric looking speakers as an existing brand or speaker design? I don’t think I’ve seen those before.

I'm no authority, but they look homemade to me. Certainly don't have "an aesthetic to complement stylish homes", but maybe that's just me.

They look to be Altec Duplexes. No idea about the enclosures.

Edit: Could be modern Great Plains Audio Duplexes... cannot tell for sure. :p

Sure looks like a candidate. Or at least the driver type and aesthetics...

as in a tweeter inside a mid, inside a woofer? Holy mary, jesus, has this ever been done?

AJ was at KEF, FWIW.

Ah, right. If I brighten the image and zoom in it looks pretty much like this driver:

So I’m guessing that speaker was probably home made where somebody just incorporated that driver into those cabinets?
(and the speakers in the photo have casters on the bottom, which speaks more to DIY).

I wouldn’t imagine AJ would simply use those old drivers in his new design.

Cabasse even pushed the concept further, tweeter inside a mid, inside a mid woofer, inside a woofer, it's a four-way concentric.

Unfortunately, the company is in a bad financial shape at the moment.

That would be my guess
Perhaps an early prototype of what would become the SourcePoint 10?
