Mofi SourcePoint 888 Towers vs Ascend ELX towers, What would you pick?

IBoth can be had for about the same price. I would opt for the soft dome on the Ascends. 50/50 split between music and HT. Will be paired with subs in a relatively large space. What would you pick?

Erin put the Mofis in his top 3 in a vid I just watched recently from Erin’s Audio Corner.

MoFi 888 reaches deeper (negated with subs anyway), but the ELX is a little more linear.

Aesthetics I think the 888 is larger and bulkier, the ELX slimmer and more conservative. But the 888 should play well loud in your large room.

The ELX Raal has extra wide dispersion which creates a very linear horizontal response, meaning not only MLP is linear but also other people on the side, if that is a use case.

Personally I would choose the ELX, but cannot go wrong with either.

With subwoofers, like the Ascends and the dome rather than the Raal tweeter.

The Sourcepoints are nice too but like the wider directivity of the Ascends. Think they look nicer too.

1. I like the look of the ELX better, but the SP888's baffle probably is better with regard to diffraction. Nonetheless, the ELX frequency response looks good.

2. I like that the SP 888 uses a concentric driver and the wide vertical listening window that provides. But, with the ELX, if you mostly will be in it's vertical listening window when listening, it may be a non-issue. The ELX's vertical listening window is very narrow, though (see the vertical contour plot on Ascend's webpage for the ELX).

3. The measurements of the ELX posted on Ascend's website look good, other than the vertical contour plot (see point #2 above). But, I question why they do not show the harmonic distortion, modulation distortion and compression measurements. Personally, I would want to see that data before making a decision.

Btw, in case it matters to you the ELX tweeter material is aluminum alloy. Material is not a great indicator of dome tweeter quality so personally would not consider it a deal breaker but just want you to be aware.

I have some Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX and am very happy with the sound quality.
