I have some that I reckon would make great speaker stands. Just they aren't as useful at 3cm high

I like both of these designs, I sit relatively close my speakers (5-6ft) and move around a lot side to side and up and down (I have young children). Wish the 888's vertical dispersion with the F228BE's front ports where an option .

From Kef. "For all intents and purposes, there is no appreciable difference between a rear and front-ported speaker. They both do the same thing – use the energy created by the woofer when it moves backward (or ‘in’) to enhance bass response.

The practical issue with a rear-ported speaker is how the energy coming from the cabinet interacts with the boundary behind it. Energy waves bounce off the nearest boundary (for our purposes we’ll call it a “wall”) and interact with the direct energy from the front of the speaker. This interaction may result in either a dip or boost in energy at certain frequencies that will make the overall sound in that frequency region muddy or inarticulate. "

If one decides to buy these speakers for home theatre, what does he use for centre channel? There's no possibility to use a third tower as centre channel as it goes under TV. Or KEF R Meta series is a better way to go for HT? No need to go very low with towers as I'm already using 2xSVS SB3000 and thinking adding a third one in the future when I will be replacing my Denon (once Dirac ART arrives).

Yes, you are correct. Front port versus Rear port can make a difference.
Front-ported speakers typically allow for more flexible placement. They can be positioned closer to walls without significantly affecting sound quality. Rear-ported speakers typically require space between the rear of the speaker and the wall behind them for optimal placement to maximize bass.

As a comparison, the F228Be front port is a monster in a medium size room. It's right up front and in your face. In contrast, the F328Be dual rear ports offer strong bass as well but proper placement is required to maximize the reflected sound to the listening position. Rear-ported speakers may offer slightly enhanced bass response compared to front-ported designs when properly placed. This is because rear ports can take better advantage of room acoustics to reinforce low frequencies. But if the placement isn't maximized it may not.

In addition, Rear-ported speakers are more likely to interact with room boundaries, potentially leading to a boost or dip in certain frequencies depending on placement. This could be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on the specific room and setup.

This is part of the reason I got the Buchardt A10 with no ports at all and DSP, I have a pretty odd placement for my speakers.

Well optics is subjective - I really don't like the look of revel speakers (they have this "cheap american" look to me) and would always prefer the look of the mofi.

The Revel Be speaker cabinets are fine for me, but those white drivers don't seem very WAF friendly.

Flat down to thirty hertz, good on and off axis, low distortion even at high levels, and whilst they're not inexpensive, they're not stupid money.

Given all that, I'll live with the boxy design. I fancy some white ones.

I'd go with point source 10s and subs personally.

You don't see the white drivers if the black speaker grills are on. It's a simple magnetic contact so easy on/off.

Good point. How acoustically transparent are these Revel Be grills?

When I've gotten new speakers in the past, my habit has been to not even take the grills out of their packaging because it seemed like they adversely affected the sound. Maybe that is not so much the case these days.

Totally agreed, I thought the Salons were great looking, the Performa looks like cheap garbage to my eyes. Maybe they look better in person, but those white drivers are not for me.

I hear you but that's more complexity that I don't want. The 888 is just fit and forget. I suppose I might need to rejig the PEQ but that's it.

I think I must see the MoFi speakers in person before I say too much about their look. The whole plastic(?) front may be too much for me, but that depends a lot on how the texture of that surface look like in person. Is it plastic or does it just look like that in the pictures?

Imho the revel salons looks nicer even the studio 2, my problem with revel are their cabinets too much lightweight cabinets

I assume some sort of composite material. Could also be coated MDF, not sure. It would not be a sticking point for me. Looks thick and rigid, which is good.

If they measure well and sound good, should not matter but I agree with you. I like cabinets to be heavy and inert. It adds a sense of quality, and damping etc and "on paper" is a benefit to the audio if done right.

Those seem like great speakers, but "MoFi" is a ridiculous name for a company selling upscale $5,000 speakers. Can you imagine hosting a party with your lawyer and doctor friends, someone asks you what those nice speakers are, and you have to explain "They're MoFi, like hi-fi, but there's mo' of it, get it"?

Just connect them to a Schiit amp and tell them about that And maybe connect an IFI dac and pronounce it "ify"
