MoFi Sourcepoint 8 measured by ErinsAudioCorner

I had heard them with Andrew at AXPONA. Adding to our stress level, had been poor wi-fi service, at the hotel, but some downloaded music had been played. 888s have really good bass and dynamics. They are also 96 pounds each. I think their main problem now will be, being able to make them fast enough to satisfy the demand.
 
Not sure what to do. I was thinking of getting a set of mofi 8s as the discounted price isn't too bad, and I'm curious to hear them.

But... I'm wondering with PEQ, if the mofi 10 might be the better option. Anyone have any insights?

These are on sale for $2,000, $2,200 with stands. The contour plots look very good. The vertical one is better than most, probably due to the coaxial driver.

If you need higher SPL and/or more/deeper bass without sub than probably yes, in the other case I would opt for the 8 as its directivity is a bit more continuous and it seems to have less diffraction ripples, usually smaller coaxial drivers are better there, which is probably one of the reasons Andrew Jones also went for a 8" one on its new 888 floorstander.

What you say makes sense. The 10s are also less linear where the directivity hiccup occurs. The 8s look like the sweet spot, and I plan to use a sub, so I'll go with the 8s over the 10s. Just want to wait and see how the 888s measure.

In Germany it retails for 3.000 € / $ 3.260 and the stands 600 € / $ 652, I hate this :facepalm:
 
As have recently seen others misled by the Stereophile Bass bump, thought I'd illustrate how misleading their bass measurements are. Here is a comparison between Erin's Klippel and the posted Stereophile measurements of the Sourcepoint 8...

While mostly comparable through the middle part of the bandwidth, aside from the bass, the Stereophile measure veers off again in the upper treble. With this look, it is clear Stereophile's bass response has been spliced in, but with a major skew that overemphasizes its magnitude. The really misleading aspect is that the response appears to be anechoic and only noted in caption that the bass is actually a “complex sum". As often is the case, there is no mention that this complex sum is unadjusted for known nearfield measurement characteristics. Unfortunately, the more casual reader can too easily miss this sloppy splice and think it is an accurate representation. As the Klippel shows, the bass response is overstated to a significant (and very audible) degree.

Hey Fellas, I'm seriously considering the SourcePoint 8's as Main L/R for my dedicated home theater. Just curious if anyone has put these through movie watching and how they performed?

Did you get chance to test these for movies? I am planning to use for 2.1 setup

I've had these in my living room for almost a year now paired with an RSL Speedwoofer 10S MK II. All TV/audio goes through my WIIM Ultra. They are used everyday and still impress me even though they are not even close to being placed ideally in my room. I think they would be great in a HT setup for all the bed layer speakers, except that they are rather large for the side and rear channels.
 
I printed a trim ring to cover the screw holes in my SP8's. Here are some colors I had on hand. I prefer the magnet mount method over the peg mount. I made the CAD file public on tinkercad.com, search for MOFI.

And if it is the location's noise floor, the Klippel certainly isn't removing it from the MD distortion plots.
I have been scratching my head (out of pure ignorance) in trying to come-up with some reasoning behind those recurring ripples (+/-2dB) through-out.
I convinced myself that the noise-floor, showing similar recurring, ripples were not being nulled-out for/during the NFS of the SourcePoint8.

Later, I also noticed similar recurring-ripples in the SPL (not IMD) measurements of the MoFi-SP10:

Though they still confuse me, I bought into the SP10's concentric design, simply because this 'triangular' recommendation:

...becomes 'rectangular seating positions', when there are 2 people in the listening room.

Very nice! It's looks very good for a custom made trim ring.
And the texture on the trim ring adds to the vintage vibes of the SourcePoint 8.

How much does the trim ring protrude from the front baffle?
And how did you mount the magnets to the trim ring?
 
Robert, the texture comes from the build plate I'm using with my printer. The trim ring is 1.5mm thick. The outside is rounded over, the inside is not. The magnets are 8mm round by 3mm thick and are super glued to 0.25mm indentations printed into the ring. I created another version of the ring that uses 6mm x 3mm magnets that are press fit into the locations (no glue needed). The magnets come within < 0.5mm of the screw head. The trim ring uses ~14g of filament (~$0.35) and 8 magnets (~$0.10 each in quantity) and prints in ~40min each on my printer. The magnets are quite strong as you can see in the picture and the rings stack nicely for storage as long as you arrange the magnet polarity the same. The dark brown and silk blue are my favorite colors for them.

Just wanted to add my voice to growing list of MoFi SourcePoint 8 owners that are truly enjoying these amazing speakers. With wall reinforcement I am getting useful bass even down into the mid to upper 30s, which is not bad for listening without a woofer. It is nice not to have to worry about integrating a sub (at least for now…until I get the itch for deeper bass again).
 
What makes their tonality preference score such lower value, compared to let's say Ascilab F6B?
