MoFi SourcePoint 10 - Review & Measurements by Erin

MoFeet - alternative stands for SourcePoint 8 & SourcePoint 10

As a very happy owner of a pair of MoFi SourcePoint 8 I stumbled upon this (German speaking) page providing alternative stands for the SP8 (called MoFeet 8) and the SP10 (called MoFeet 10).

These stands raise the coax chassis of the SourcePoints to a height of 98 cm (approx. 39 inch), which makes perfectly sense to me as the height of my ears sitting on my couch is almost the same - whereas the original MoFi stands are much lower and listening will be vertically off-axis.

The price tag of 1.090 € for the SP8 variant and 1.190 € for the SP10 variant is pretty hefty, but the build quality is excellent and I do prefer the design of those custom stands (well ... beauty is in the eye of the beholder). I won't come up with too much of subjective sound descriptions, but I ran Dirac over these stands as well as the original ones and got the impression that Dirac could not correct all of the off-axis alignment of the original MoFi stands and that the MoFeet variant provided me with a more tightened bass and a slightly better spatial imaging.

I bought the Mofi SP10 but didn’t like its stand. I prefer the SP8 3-column stands, which are less stable for the added weight. I filled them with sand. I’m considering iso Acoustic Gaia new isolation feet, but I doubt they’re effective. Any experience?

I made stands by kit-bashing these Monoprice stands and a 1/4" steel top plate and a Richlite 1"x12"x12" board as a base. This made for nice, heavy stands with the legs moved out to the edges similar to the stock Linton stands but not so dated and I was able to choose a (longer) leg length that fit my listening height. With materials (when the stands were $50 each) I think I was just under 300/pair all-in. Had to drill and chamfer holes in both the steel plates and the richlite of course, but I was able to reuse the bolts from the stands. I put some 1mm black felt on both the top plates and the bases to protect the speakers and the floor.

Second link for the Richlite base plates:

I recall Erin (in his youtube review) stating that the SP10s compare well with floor-standers at twice their price.
This is good to know.

Having listened to them a few weeks ago, these are my next speakers.
The size is perfect. Bigger than bookshelf but floorstanding. They will fit my space better.
The tuning switch-filter for the higher-end helped with my decision.

The decision to purchase was not so much because I listened to them. The listening room wasn't ideal and I wasnt in control.
It was a friends friends home. -Despite that, they did sound outstanding to me!

The decision to buy was more because of this thread.

Now, I'm just looking for a good reputable online company to purchase them from.
Any recommendation for purchasing from CA?

Which would be the best option today! R3 Meta or Mofi 10 with the new crossover?
I would choose the smoother response from KEF, plug the port, and add two subwoofers and overall EQ.
In my ears, I believe that too big of a coax creates a compromise by trying to play bass and also slightly distort the midrange performance. I simply ALWAYS prefer dedicated midranges... But that's just me :)

Done deal. I got the Source Point 10 Master Edition in Black.
Also, ended up getting a cartridge from them. -10% for the entire transaction, too! That was nice.

Wow. Got them in yesterday and setup today.
Gigantic upgrade over my RP-600M's.
Huge Soundstage. -I don't even have them on stands yet.
Voluminous presence. -Weighty but controlled bass.
Low-end -clean separation, fast transients and proper decay. -Think kick drums vs toms. No smearing.

I should have done this years ago.
