Residing in temporary house while searching for new one to buy. Had to store all my regular audio gear( 2,000 cds, cd transport, RME Dac, Genelec powered speakers, equipment stand, Sennheiser headphones HD 600/660S).
Wanted music, so used my old MacBook Pro(2015), Jcally jm20max dongle($25), eqmac software(free) and Beyerdynamicc DT1770 closed back headphones bought on sale($270) and then listened to free music on Youtube. Lots of classical, medieval/Renaissance choral music, live acoustic jazz recordings from 50s to 70s,etc. Most music I have on a cd as well , so i know how it sounds.
Holy Schnike! That minmial setup has provided some very, very plesureable listening hours for me. Really surprized me the quality of music produced. Always thought Youtube music was shit, dongles not suitable for real listening, eq usually results(due to overuse) in degraded music, closedback headphones too boxy.
Learned a lesson here: we are in a golden age of engaging music reprodiction , at all levels.
