The tariff is a killer and will probably be the main reason if I move on to something else. I’m not ever going to pay that tariff… and I’m totally fine with not buying the Tide16.

Everything has some level of tariffs even AVPs assembled locally are made of components which are subject to tariffs, as the components needed simply are not manufactured locally it’s just less visible that you are paying it.
What do you propose to buy that has similar specs but that has a final price which is cheaper?
Maybe but I can’t remember the last time I paid for shipping on a new product. There are several variables as well like warranty work and having to deal with shipping back 1/2 way around the world.
The first step is waiting for Amir’s review before anything else.

You don’t understand, shipping may be free but it has to include a seller’s invoice. Many foreign sellers are offering to include an invoice for a much lower amount than the actual price.
I grew up in a country that over time had high tariffs or big differences between the official and black market exchange rates. Buyers and sellers very quickly act to minimize these market distortions. This another reason these policies tend to fail over time.

I’m not sure what else is out there but I just won’t buy the Tide16 because of the tariff among other things. This isn’t a mandatory purchase. I don’t have to buy anything, especially something sight unseen.
Quick question, if I end up returning the tide16, do I get all the tariff money back?

i honestly don’t care about the $30 shipping charge. If there was no tariff and just the $30 shipping and the nickel and dime me cost for the umik-1 (that was originally included), I might have ordered it today.

Normally no if you buy direct because the tariff is paid by the importer which is you. It’s just that the money is being collected and provided to someone else, usually the shipping company, to pay the bill.
If you buy from an importer then they are taking the risk and paying the tariffs and the refund for a return depends entirely on their return policy, an importer would also provide the warranty locally. This is why importers charge a margin over buying direct.
Some of these tariffs may not last much longer, while it is limited and sure to be appealed
As far as I know, miniDSP does not accept returns (I assume there may be exceptions if the unit is defective or something wrong on arrival). So, unless you can make some special arrangements/agreement with the dealer prior, the sale will be final.

The race is on then Let's hope the recent MiniDSP estimate for the start of deliveries (mid of this month) will not be as fluid as the dates initially referred to in their marketing.
