Why did they make the choice to not include a digital out? Would that not make sense for such a product ?Auro3D and a digital output would be the cherry on the cake. Nevertheless exciting.
Add analog-out so that passive speakers can be covered as well, and that would be my dream.
I meant support for bare wire or banana plug inserts similar to how AVRs do it.Eh? It has 16 analog outputs?
They are surround processor, not an AVR. A bulky AVR at potentially 6K-8K USD IMHO is not a great prospect product as there are many competitors in that price ranges.I meant support for bare wire or banana plug inserts similar to how AVRs do it.
Looks like those modular boards were fabbed 4/24, wonder why it took almost two years to go to production. Either way, that does mean they can make a MiniDSP Tide8 pretty easily if they wanted to.
Honestly wasn't even aware MiniDSP released something like this just 2 months ago. Looks like they are building quite the ecosystem! They are surround processor, not an AVR. A bulky AVR at potentially 6K-8K USD IMHO is not a great prospect product as there are many competitors in that price ranges.
A surround processor with killer feature and decent price like this will be more appropriate for wide variety of customers. Customers can buy 8 Aiyama amplifier to power 16 channel for just 1600$ or they can use their more expensive and/or better amplifiers.
If you want amplifier, they have an 8 channel Amp for your need.
AMP-8
The miniDSP AMP-8 is an 8-channel power amplifier designed for home theater, immersive audio, and multizone setups. It stands out due to its remarkable power-to-size ratio and high efficiency. Utilizing ICEpower® amplifier modules, the AMP-8 delivers 300 Watts per channel at 4 ohms and 200 Watts...www.minidsp.com
Spec sheet linked above says HDMI 2.1.Hdmi 2.0? Seriously?
Yeah, I'd be far more interested in a simpler and cheaper AV processor. 8 channels and just DLBC would be far more interesting to me (I just run 5.1 and won't be expanding this). I currently use a Marantz Cinema 70S but its performance could easily be improved on and it has zero competition at a remotely comparable price currently. Now split it for half the channels, the size and the price, and I'm interested.
I haven't checked it as this is not within my spending budget, just skimmed over first post.Spec sheet linked above says HDMI 2.1.
I guess HDMI licensing wouldn't allow digital outputs.Auro3D and an digital output would be the cherry on the cake. Nevertheless exciting.
Yeah it's not even close to $3500. It's not going to be competitive in the USA. Oh well we have buckeye and philharmonic audio.Tariffs are gonna absolutely wreck this thing in the US.
Just use a Flex HT with an Apple TV 4K. I'm a sucker for minimalism so I'm not too happy about the size and price of the Tide16, but I don't really see a simpler version being a significant step up from the Flex HT eitherYeah, I'd be far more interested in a simpler and cheaper AV processor. 8 channels and just DLBC would be far more interesting to me (I just run 5.1 and won't be expanding this). Where do you see the AV30 for $3k? It retails for $4k!Tariffs are gonna absolutely wreck this thing in the US.
In the matter of a day apart, interesting to see Marantz release the new AV30 at $3000 + $800 ART license versus Tide16 with the license but at $3500 + tariffs.
Marantz will definitely see discounts during its lifespan. MiniDSP isn’t known for such things.
Tide16 will surely outclass on audio performance but Marantz/Denon have been doing AVPs and AVRs for decades and the livability and interface is fully developed. MiniDSP are stubborn and idiosyncratic and have never delivered a device like this. It’s a high bar, sort of like how the new EV companies just miss things the Big 3 and Germans have learned through hard lessons over years of testing and manufacturing.
