No. I don't think I have that energy. I don't need the VRROOM long term, it was a short term solution.

To be clear, what it did not permit me to do is output LPCM 5/7.1. It would only output stereo. So it's useless upstream.

That's a bit disappointing. How did you connect it - HDMI or HDMI eARC?
I think that miniDSP said it was their intention to integrate the Tide16 with VRROOM etc.
 
I tried everything. HDMI, all new high quality cables.


My goal was to connect an Apple TV to one monitor and have two 7.1 LPCM audio. One to the AudioPraise VanityPro Digital System and one to my
TIDE16 DiracART Analog System

I might try again or contact Minidsp, it's just discouraging.

AV30 also support 8k (although I can't find more detail spec on this), I know there aren't many sources nor display that's 8K, but video technology moves fast and I would like to future proof as much as possible.

On the other hand, I get the feeling that miniDSP will have more robust firmware updates than Marantz.

I'm torn, Tide16 vs AV30 vs. the ancient HTP-1

Marantz and HTP-1 are fully mature platforms so likely no significant future updates. Tide is a young one so what they manage to squeeze out is to be seen. We all expect it to evolve over time.

On balance, HTP-1 has more features than AV30 and no limitation on cross support for ART. Ancient or not, probably the most full featured AVP in that price range and channel count. One needs to determine what features are useful and needed to make informed decision.

Very good and accurate assessment.

The miniDSP also have ART, which neither the Marantz nor the HTP-1 have, but this tariff thing is killing us in the US to get the Tide16.

If on the fence, suggest (if you haven't yet) read the Tide manual, it is very clear about what the device can and cannot do, and nice written, about an hour to go through the whole thing,

and/or wait for the Tide to be bench tested before buying (or not buying) as features are not the sole criteria, sound quality as well.

The TIde is a compact design and weighs just 16 pounds, by the way, which is very nice, and the OLED display is well arranged and superior to the two other processors you mention, in my opinion. I am very happy with it.
 
If you have and HTx or HT Flex it's very intuitive. Otherwise there is a learning curve to the Minidsp console.

The HTx and the Tide16 has the same dac configuration and implementation, wonder if you could tell a difference listening to 2.x music?

I couldn't. I'm sure. Not without considering DSP at which the TIDE16 excels. That's my primary reason to upgrade my HTx.

40% price hike magically out of thin air. If it wasn't for the tariffs, this is just a plain old no brainer.

FYI I paid 4,450 including the tariff, brokerage fee and shipping to the U.S. It is a lot of $$$, and the tariffs are a horrible regressive tax. Nonetheless the HTP-1 at $4,000 plus about $550 for Dirac bass management/ART package is no savings. We are stuck with this for the near term.

You mean until they start asking $6K for such processors next year? With inflation where it is and chips going crazy, long term is not looking that great.

I bought it directly from miniDSP recently - it has only been available for a short very few weeks.

And yes, the HTP-1 is ART capable but you have to pay for it. Also it is unclear (at least to me) if there are differences in the capacities of the various ART compatible processors, meaning, how well they implement ART. I especially trust miniDSP on that consideration.

I asked ChatGPT, because it's made in china (can an owner please confirm?), it is subject to 35% import duty.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. I didn't see it on the Monoprice website, but the Dirac website indeed confirms it.

I would say this would knock the Marantz AV30 off the shortlist, but some people can get a discount from MSRP if you shop hard enough.

This is a tough decision. I have 6 to 8 months until my home theater space in my new place is set up, so I have time.
