Thanks for the detailed feedback
In the initial recordings
I was using the Shure Mv 88+
Subsequently switched to dual mic setup, with a motu 2 stereo interface, video shot on phone

If you have the time, I have recorded the same songs on different media, mostly vinyl vs cd, on my YouTube channel

Would appreciate feedback, thanks

To me, they all have too much treble and high mids. Like having a flat house curve with a little boost in the sub bass.
When you listen to your recordings using headphones, how does it compare to the real sound coming from your speakers in your room?

Can the “usb host” port be used to connect a giant ripped cd library on a usb hard drive?
If I remember the manual correctly, it should work, may take a long time to load though
I personally have not used the USB for media playback

I use a Sony WH 1000 XM 3, for checking recordings
The recordings sound a bit bass shy and lacking a bit in treble detail

Do you apply EQ to your headphones?
The Sony is quite a bassy headphone with not too much eargain. I would expect your recordings to sound better on that then on one EQd to harman2018.

No EQ applied, on the Sony
I will try a Sennheiser HD 600

Maybe I missed this somewhere, but.
Is there any reason why your speakers are so close together? How far away do you sit and how far apart are the speakers?
Not trying to knit pick, they just appear to be extremely close together.

Hi
The Focals are roughly 6 ft apart & the Revels are 8 ft apart
I tried them closer & wider & felt this positioning sounded optimal

Did you hear any difference between your old parasound pre and the minidsp SHD when you first plugged it in (without Dirac etc?) Is there a gain difference that was appreciable? I'm looking at a minidsp SHD and wondering if I still want a preamp

You can add gain in three different places in the SHD:
  1. Routing Matrix
  2. Channel output Levels
  3. Master volume
Just be sure not to overdrive any of the digital processing sections.
We have found the SHD easily drives amplifiers with voltage gain of 25dB or higher.

Deer Creek Audio is an authorized miniDSP dealer.

Thanks for the information and the previously posted white paper. I've downloaded for my edification. My motivation for the minidsp SHD is to integrate subs in a 2.2 system, experiment with Dirac, and to possibly replace my preamp.

I'll reach out to you or post a new topic about a setup question as I don't want to take over the OP thread.

Put my hometheater fronts, Klipsch RP 8000, in the stereo rig
been meaning to try towers in this set up for a while
Ran my standard dsp/ eq process, topped it off with a 8 db Harman curve

Still making up my mind over the result

Hey! I'm looking at picking up a SHD. Forgive me if this is a dumb question but I'm getting into the world of stereo. I'm a bit confused by the analog outs on the SHD not being labeled Left and Right. How do you know which one to plug into a power amplifier that only has channel labels? FYI I'm looking at the Buckeye amp 2 channel (https://www.buckeyeamp.com/shop/p/purifi-1et400a-amplifier-2-channel) Thank you, TheFrator

Is the “mini DSP flex eight” have any advantages over the SHD?

At least four.

(It has eight output channels vs. four for the SHD.)
