MiniDSP releases $55 ADC 'Pocket ADC'

Agreed! Quite a pity to my mind. I'm checking ASR almost daily to not miss Amirs pocketADC test

Best wishes for a great 2026 to all!
It's just a bit of a shame, but the few measurements provided by minidsp, with seriousness, already speak volumes about its relevance...

(There are dozens of affordable little Chinese DACs/preamps etc being promoted every years... but such small, high-quality, self-contained ADCs that can be so useful are hard to find, nor highlighted ... what a shame.)

You really need to realize the services this little $55 device can provide, very, very cleanly...hihi..
For example, on many sound cards...or when used with classic DACs etc...
;-)

I have nothing to do with MiniDSP and I paid for my pocket PC...hihi ;-)

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have a USB interface, so you'll still need an SPDIF to USB converter (which I know a lot of PCs and interfaces have anyway).

@morillon

I'm using my pocketADC in my phono chain since its initial availability here in Europe, have no doubt it will measure excellently in Amir's set-up. But nevertheless: I'm just soooo curious :D

You have the adept for that, for example. But the little pocket-sized device at $55 has many other uses... like adding an analog input line 2v... to sound cards, etc.

Or, which might interest many people, adding a high-quality analog input to just about any DAC ,streamer etc... that was the reason for MiniDSP's existence as a complement to their other devices. It's surprising that this hasn't provoked more of a reaction.
;-)

55dollars..ouhouh...

You shouldn't focus on what he doesn't do... but on what he proposes to do, autonomus.., at a low price (and with surprisingly high quality).

Thanks to my insistence and seeing no action taken...
minidsp has rigorously enhanced its AP 555 measurements.(The correspondence between their measurements and those here was very good on the adept)
(essentially sweeps, the most instructive things)
Thank you to them.
(Anything to follow up on? More questions?
It's possible I've forgotten some important measures...maybe an opportunity to ask them ;-)

Good news, now available on Amazon UK.

Bad news, have you seen the price?

Direct from MiniDSP it's $90 including shipping, which = c.£67, though there'll be import duties/taxes to pay on top of that, and a real PITA if you have to return it.

For UE...

For UE...

You mean EU.

Yes, around 70 euro, VAT included and in stock.
Who's this guy selling it so much???

Well,

looking at the details, the posted offer is a shipment from Amazon USA! This means you have two times import duty on the device, coming from HongKong, right?

Alternative is to buy from miniDSP UK dealers, although, none of them seems to have the item on offer.
You may want to post enquiries with them, since they are all on miniDSP's dealer network for the UK!

A large (French) distributor that has been around for quite some time and has become a major player in importing products (or components) from Asia.
(They specialized in it a little before the others...)
and even on a European scale for some time now...
a reputable company...
(a long-established distributor in France of minidsp)
can even have products manufactured under their own name...
like amplifiers, etc. (sometimes tested on ASR by Armim, etc.).

Well,

Audiophonics ships to the (not part of EU tarriff free zone) UK without VAT, imposed tarriffs (e.g. UK VAT and UK import duty) are payed by the importer, i.e. the consumer!
So, be aware: Importing goods from any country, which were imported into that country from another country, will effectively result in import tarriffs payed twice by the consumer.
So: Either buy locally or import by yourself from the original source, so tarriffs are only payed once - simple!

Winfried

expected..... but since it wasn't happening...
Minidsp offert that:

Even though it can be bypassed if needed... it should be noted that there is a trigger at -68dB, visible in the measurements.

If needed, there's a discussion about the pocket on the minidsp forum.
Adc "asym line 2v "fixed...to toslink-spdif..
;-)
