Hi,

MINIDSP OpenDRC-DI REW TOSLINKloopback measurement :

Clock motu internal 44100 Hz (external optical clock don't work because minidsp is at 480000 :

MOTU 8A 44100 TOSLINK out -> miniDSP(48000) TOSLINK IN -> miniDSP TOSLINK OUT(48000) -> MOTU 8A TOSLINK in

the ASRC of MINIDSP doesn't work, can't do proper 44100 to 480000 clean conversion :

Capture d’écran 2020-06-18 à 17.53.45.png

Now at 48000 with external optical clock ,without the need of ASRC :

MOTU 8A 48000 optical clock TOSLINK out -> miniDSP(48000) TOSLINK IN -> miniDSP TOSLINK OUT(48000) -> MOTU 8A 48000 TOSLINK in

now good only if source is 48000 :

Disapointed by minidsp,

Regards,

Olivier F.

@Olivier

I think that it's most likely a simple measurement artifact. Common that you may not be able on some interface to do 44.1k out, 48k in from 2 different clock domains and the software to easily adapt. ASRC works fine based on all the testing we done on the past few years. Here is a simple screenshot from APX585 @44.1k test signal

Based on your picture, sound would be unlistenable with a simple test tone with so much noise.. :)

Feel free to start a support tix with our team (support.minidsp.com).

MINIDSP OpenDRC-DI

I have one, will look.

REW instance 1 Java USB -> 44.1kHz -> Topping D10 -> Optical @44.1kHz -> OpenDRC-DI Out @48kHz -> DAC2 analog RCA out -> Focusrite @48kHz -> USB -> REW instance 2

Has some 60Hz power harmonics on the unbalanced cables out of the DAC, and 8 and 16kHz USB something noise.

Does the Motu permit you to use two clock rates?

"MOTU 8A 44100 TOSLINK out -> miniDSP(48000) TOSLINK IN -> miniDSP TOSLINK OUT(48000) -> MOTU 8A TOSLINK in "

I can't do that on the Focusrite, hence, two instances of REW, one to send, and one to receive.

---

Trying digital path now with mis-matched rates...

REW 44.1kHz tone to Focusrite Ch 7 USB -> S/PDIF out -> OpenDRC-DI -> 48kHz out -> Focusrite 44.1kHz S/PDIF in -> REW

A mess.

Correct @RayDunzl Unless Motu is very different to all platforms out there, it's usually not possible. USB processing need to be at same clock rate (send/receive) as it needs one clock domain for setup of the clocks. You can do a quick test with a loopback with 2 completely different rates (i.e. remove the OpenDRC in the equation), it most likely just won't work either.

Thanks

So i can use this path without distortion?

MAC OSX at 44100-> USB Motu 8ATOSLINK out44100 -> TOSLINK IN of MINIDSP open-drc-di at 480000 , AES OUT -> AES IN HYPEX plate 252 amplifier ?

Oh man, I was considering an opendrc-di or da but I'm not sure from these measurements. Not really sure where to go from here. Really was hoping to try and find an great affordable room cerrection device

The OpenDRC-DI works fine.

I think the OpenDRC-DA has been discontinued.

When you add Dirac to it, it changes to 96kHz output.

And, you lose the ability to use other software to generate filters - the do-it-yourself part of the firmware goes away (as I understand it).

The device works fine. The measurements in the OP are wrong, as stated later in the thread.

Hi RayDunzl, Hi Devteam,

But do you think it's better :

Soluce 1 :
Audio files 44100-> MAC OSX Motu driver at 44100-> USB Motu 8A TOSLINK out44100 -> at 44100 TOSLINK IN of MINIDSP clocked at 48000 open-drc-di , AES OUT at 48000-> AES IN HYPEX plate 252 amplifier

Soluce 2 :

Audio Files 44100-> MAC OSX Motu driver at 48000-> USB Motu 8A TOSLINK out48000-> at 48000 TOSLINK IN of MINIDSP clocked at 48000 open-drc-di , AES OUT at 48000-> AES IN HYPEX plate 252 amplifier

Soluce 1 or 2 ?

Regards,

I don't have a Mac, or a Motu.

My miniDSP recieves 44.1 when I play a CD, 48kHz when I watch video.

Never worried about it and don't see faults.

Thanks for the reply!

There are a couple of opendrc-da available. It's the last of the stock from one of the distributors. I'm trying to decide between getting the da version or just going with the di and adding in the soncoz qxd for the dac.

Does anyone know of a source of measurements for the opendrc-da?
