It depends on the USB cable.
For years I was using cheap 5m usb cables (for both mic and pc connections) with my minidsp devices (flex, flex ht) without issues.
Unfortunately, as they got broken by a lovely pet, I got newer cheap ones (different models).
Didn't work or randomly. Tried another model (seemed better quality) with same issues.
Ended up by using active ones.
Since, I never encountered any issues.

Today after 2 days of working without a hitch I get this msg. Ending up changing cable and following instructions twice. Kind of annoying. I emailed minidsp support and they just said follow the instructions on the screen. Nothing else.

Can mini dsp flex be better than WiiM Ultra to room correction if pretending to fix some modes and not using advanced algorithms as DIRAC?

I mean, a dedicated dsp has better sound processor or filters that a PEQ included in some DACs (WiiM on this case) or digital filters are almost the same?

Do you have a different computer you could try, or a different USB socket on the current one? Just thinking of things to try to rule out other issues rather than an issue with the Flex itself.

Oh, and you're not using a USB hub are you? Try a direct connection if you are.

I have been following ASR fora for about a year now and it strikes me that these new, digital devices offer excellent performance but they are quite 'brittle'. Also, both software up-dates and higher level functionality (room correction etc) are off limits if you are not an Apple or Microsoft customer.

If you copy your WiiM EQ config to a Flex 1:1, then the resulting room correction will be equally as performant/transparent.

But the Flex has more extensive DSP features and better correction can be achieved when utilizing that.

Thanks for your answer, which features? More channels, phase adjustments?

I use a short usb a to c adapter because the minidsp cable has the older one and the MacPro M1 has only usb Cs. Have used the 3 usb c ports of the computer with similar results. The Mac is my music computer. My PC laptop is for work. If ongoing problems I may have to migrate to the PC laptop.

No. If I wanted to read I didn’t ask you :D

I see, to my 1 (incoming or potential) subwoofer and just wanting to correct some modes WiiM should be fine.

Dirac live… well, I’m currently studying an introduction to Dirac’s equations but I’m not sure is the same guy.

Looking to a video tutorial in YouTube, Dirac live seems way more complicated…

Usually MiniDSP alone (without DiracLive) is used with REW for room correction. REW generates the PEQ.

DiracLive is no harder than Wiim for room correction except that Wiim will only do one sweep and DiracLive encourages you to do many (but you don't have to.)

REW generates automatic correction? I thought that was only for analysis

The EQ generation feature in REW works very well - though it can take quite a lot of practice to get good results.
I use both REW EQ and Dirac and I can get nearly identical results from both of them. Though I usually prefer the REW sound - seems a little cleaner. :)
Dirac is a lot easier though.

I just bought a used MiniDSP flex with DL but I can't find the a place to download Mac Software. Any help is appreciated.

I've been there but don't yet have the coupon code. I've asked the seller and Minidsp how to get around that.

Mini DSP did solve my problem
If you sent them an email asking for software and licensing the normally respond within 72 hrs. Provided you supplied them with your serial number it shouldn’t be an issue. And is referenced oh the manufacturer website.
