I stumbled across this show after I finished True Detective Season 3.... as in 'hey man if you enjoyed Mahershala Ali as that then you will LOVE Mindhunter'
and although True Detective Season 3 is very good, Mindhunter is a LOT better.
The whole show kind of runs on a some tropes... ie. the serial killer who is impossibly urbane, charming, intelligent... the CIA director who is hard nosed and "by the book" and the lead is a 'wild card' who does his own thing... and the grizzled old partner is the Danny Glover "I'm too old for this shit".
But the leads are great... I only know Johnathan Groff from Hamilton where he sings as a caricature so in reality, I dont know him at all.
Anna Torv is always great but she too plays a bit of a trope as an academic drawn in to keep the star child (Groff) on a leash.
I was able to get the six channel fhd cuts and the sound design is excellent. I was able to watch it in 7.1 and its an effect of a huge budget... I would call this show as 'unecessarily expensive'... they spared no expense to recreate the 1970s as David Fincher sees it... the music budget seems to be unreal... there's Led Zep, Fleetwood Mac, all there for period music. If you love 1970s American cars you'll dig this.
And that comes back to the fact that this show is too expensive and we will most likely never see a season 3.
I was also amused to see the leads drop onto a plane like as if its taking a bus.
Like every 30 mins, Groff was on a 707 from Quantico to Atlanta and its like... this is normal??? I would google the flight times and see if that was realistic. Maybe it is???
In my old job I would get upset if they asked me to drive 250 miles round trip and these guys do it in a dodge coronet
lovely car, lovely color... its probably a shitbox though
