Midrange dome drivers banned ?

As they mention, these look like a dome mid but it's actually a 5.25" cone with a fabric cone and fabric dustcap. They certainly have the look of the big dome mid but are constructed and behave like a cone mid.

They didn't cheap out on the mid though and they have a big NEO magnet and are quite nice.

Big fan of Big Dan and crew over there.

It's not. It's a cone with a big dust cap connected to the voice coil. The dust cap may be connected directly to the voice coil, but it isn't directly connected to the suspension. Therefore, not a dome.

How about an 8" frame for a 4" dome?

Seems like CtC spacing isn't going to be easy

It looks a lot like the driver that ATC uses in the SCM19/SCM20, i.e. a dome used as the dust cap grafted directly to a giant voice coil, with some cone around it.

Much more like the the construction of the old dynaudio 15W75 where it is a cone with a 3” coil and dustcap the size of the former. If you’re looking for an ATC copy, the closest appears to be Volt in the UK

No no, not talking about the mid driver. I'm talking about this thing:

Ahh, that’s a pretty straightforward (but premium mid). Audio technology and their flex units makes a similar underhung motor with shorting and damped cone.

Another consideration might be the scan speak illuminator though that is a rather stiff paper cone (though they do some tricks at Dr Kurt Mueller with air drying the body and pressing the edge, I believe, to control break up)
