This is my first post in the audiophile realm. Having recently received a pair of SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle speakers, I need to upgrade from a 25-year old Integra DTR 9.1. Needless to say, exploration of options is overwhelming. Searching locally turned up both the Anthem STR pre-amp and its sister STR amplifier being used as demos in a retail home theater. They are available as discounted items. Additionally, I located a new Marantz PM10 integrated amp, less power but also discounted and costing less overall. So what would be the better acquisiton? What are the caveats with demo amps/pre-amps?Obviously, the speakers can accept quite a bit of power. I do want to add a music streamer as well - another deep pool of options. Any advice would be appreciated, even a left turn from the two suggestions I have submitted. Thanks.

First thing you need to give us is a budget. An idea of how loud you like to go, and the size of your listening room would also be a help.

You can get very good integrated streaming amps these days for not too much money.

Don't think you need traditional high cost items like the PM10.

In any case, I would probably be suggesting a hypex or purify based class D power amp combined with a streamer such as the Wiiim ultra.

Thanks. The room size is essentially 17'10" W x 30' L x 10' H. My volume levels are more moderate-to-low these days (I wear ear plugs to concerts). Budget-wise, though the sky is NOT the limit, I'm looking for value, not seeking to scrape every conceivable incremental improvement from the equipment. The STRs can be had for no more than $8000 (down from $10,800); the Marantz PM10 for $4500 (down from $9000). But it is not just about the cost but rather what will optimally extract the best sound from those speakers at reasonable prices. Thanks again for your input.

The Hypex / Purify based power amps will extract the best sound you can get from. your speakers. Either can be obtained from around £$2000 depending on configuration. You will not get better sound from either the STR, or the Marantz.

If you are USA based, then VTV or Buckey both assemble the amps in USA.

The Wiim Ultra - as a streamer is (like most streamers/DACs) audibly perfect. You can pay much more - but you will only get fancier casework, and perhaps bigger / better displays - but. you cant get better sound.
