Thanks for the review - always good to see speakers reviewed, and great to see nice, cheap ones doing well.

Fun fact: available in China via Taobao:

The only "cost" is low sensitivity which in this day and age, is not a problem at all with amplification being so cheap.
Class d amplifiers like TPA3255 which shows load dependency at higher ohms but are stable at lower, and has sufficient current would be good pairing. Isn't it ?

Interesting, in Amazon Spain they cost 322 euro per pair
:D
Wondering if someone will be crazy enough.
Actually you can order it from Amazon US and as far as it's less than $150 there will be no import fee, but delivery is roughly $50. Still pointless IMO
edit: $50 to my Balkanian paradise:) and $30 to Spain

100$ for a pair?? That's amazing, you could couple a bunch of these with a sub and an AVR for a nice little surround system without being overwhelmed by the cost that accumulates when you want high channel count. That's 10 speakers for 500. 9 are needed for a 5.1.4 so you'll have a reserve when one breaks :D

So how many watts are needed to hit the 90dB SPL like the (right) chart?

Might consider for my kid’s bedroom.
Thanks for the review!

Great music sounds great regardless. Non-Brits might want to look up "Dansette" record player.
This was *my* first ever record player, a Dansette Popular obtained for me by hard-saved 'Green Shield Stamps' which maybe one or two UK based oldies might remember :D The speaker was mounted half under the BSR turntable, NOT on the front. The twin-valve amp likewise alongside the speaker. The TC8H crystal cartridge couldn't track well at all and of course was mono records only.

A hundred quid my backside :(

Depends on speaker placement and how far away the listener is. Assuming placement near-ish to a wall and 8 feet away:

As you can see, even with the low sensitivity you don't need a lot of power to get that very loud average SPL (are you sure you want your kid listening that loud in their room?). However, the problem arises when you try to get 20dB of headroom for peaks:

Even with 1000W on tap, we're still a bit shy of hitting 110dB on the peaks. This is where higher sensitivity speakers shine:

A speaker with 90dB sensitivity can hit 110dB with only 150W on tap.

Of course this is largely academic: with a budget speaker with a 4" woofer, you're going to get some pretty gnarly distortion on those peaks anyway, even if you had the power on hand to drive it to those levels. You need more/bigger/better woofers to get high SPLs without the speaker starting to fall apart.

Keep your expectations in check, and be more realistic about the likely actual SPL levels you (or your kid) are going to be listening at, and this speaker will probably do just fine. An average SPL of 80dB is actually pretty dang loud, and then looking at 100dB for dynamic peaks:

Only 118W needed for those peaks, and you can get that no problem with, say, a Wiim Amp or the like.

Distortion seems very low for its class. Actually, very impressive overall for the budget category. I don’t need them per se but I’d love to pick up a pair for desktop use. Availability in Europe seems sparse, however. Thanks for the informative review @amirm
Thanks are also extended to the member that sent in his speaker :)
Another issue is price across the pond: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Micca-MB42X-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweeter/dp/B00E7H8GG2

Depending on Sleek or Standard case the price is £156.26 or £149.51 - in other words twice the expected conversion of $US to £GBP. At the time of writing $100 converts to £80.75.

I wonder if the crossover can be diy corrected, just like mentioned in the JBL A180 thread

Holy cannoli, Batman! For $100 I am giving these a great. What more could you want for that amount of money. Pair with Fosi or like amp and you have a killer desktop system.
