Tomorrow, May 27th 2024 in the US is Memorial Day.
A day dedicated to those who lost there life's in defense of freedom around the world.
Take a few minutes tomorrow to quietly thank all those gone.
Freedom Isn't Free

God Bless the Soldiers of the world who forsake all else to ensure your tranquility.
They never sleep at night so you may.
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” — John F. Kennedy"

In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
—John McCrae

Suicide in Trenches (Siegfried Sassoon)
I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark, And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum With crumps and lice and lack of rum, He put a bullet through his brain.
No one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you’ll never know The hell where youth and laughter go.

"Back home again in Indiana"
I miss Jim Neighbors on this day every year #indy500

[edit] Jim Cornelison nailed it today in his rendition as he does every time

Memorial Day is a US national holiday set aside to honor the memory of those in the armed forces who gave sacrifice for our freedom.

It has nothing to do with standing for a song or a flag unless that is your personal choice of expression.

Also, please refrain from posting political propaganda. The ACLJ is not an organization worthy of honor.

P.S. I have no regret should my comments cause this thread to be locked/deleted.

Sad that you can turn your back on a nation that did so much for so many.
Maybe you forgotten the Europe of 1914 - 1918 & 1939 - 1945

Good grief, just ignore the thread if you don't agree, standing is just a sign of respect, no need to step on the graves and insult the living.

I'll be playing taps as part of Taps Across America (3 pm local time, any instrument welcome): https://www.tapsacrossamerica.org/

Fortunately, we have a report button and two excellent moderators.

I'm a German born in back then West Germany. I am very thankful to all our western "enemies" in WW2 that they not only overthrow the nacist terror regime but also helped us afterwards to survive (Marshall plan) and become a democracy.

For more than two years my every day's thoughts are here, the hotspot for global politics of next centuries, and very, very brave fighters:

No one - not any people in any place on this earth - can wish for peace more fervently than those who have been in war.

Let us today remember our fallen comrades, our kith and kin, and resolve to make war the last of all last resorts.
