My '05 Nissan has a nice amber segmented display that looks like a modern touch screen until you start the car up :)
It's got a nice shelf in front of it for propping my phone up as well. It's almost like the designer anticipated smartphones taking over..

Every function has an easily accessible button or knob, and there is even a dedicated key to switch between imperial and metric.
I've been able to adjust the bass level on the stereo while on the highway with a single press and twist of a knob.
Nowadays you are forced to stop the car before it even lets you open menus for functions like that.

Audio is hooked up through a cassette adapter, and the stock Bose system sounds fine enough.
There's audible hiss when stopped, but inaudible when moving. I think I had to disconnect one of the rear woofers due to electrical noise from the fuel pump as well :)

Gonna miss it when I have to get rid of this car next year due to engine troubles.

For example my 2024 kia ev6 has a nice screen and supports Android auto, but not wireless android auto. so even though I have a wireless charging pad in my car, my phone ends up standing upright in a cupholder and I have to plug it into a USB cable every time I get in. I've had wireless android auto support on my aftermarket head unit in my 2015 Mazda cx9 since 2020.
There are dongles that you plug into the vehicles USB port to enable wireless android auto. I've used the Motorola Sound MA1 for several years with very few issues.

FYI, installation was a bust as there is no easy way to use the existing mount/bezel for this device due to custom size it has (back side is not double din). Either have to 3D print a complex fixture, or find something else. A company makes a combo of this unit and dash bezel but takes a month to get there. :(
This would have been such a great project to video post. Working title "Five Missing Pieces"

Thanks so much for this review. I bought one in February and could not be more pleased. I use the optical out to a DSP and a pair of old Alpine PDX F4 amplifiers. Install is in a Toyota Tundra and the CAN bus integration works very well on my older 2013 model.

I did not read every post here and don’t know if the level of software support from Mekede was mentioned. They are one of the best Android head unit providers in terms of writing and maintaining their own launcher software that sits on top of the Andriod OS.

I put a cheap (~$70) Amazon sourced Android Auto / CarPlay screen in my van conversion RV a few months ago and I am amazed how functional this thing is for the cost. I'm using Bluetooth for the audio connection through the stock radio system with my OnePlus phone and everything works so well I don't even need to think about it. Voice commands now finally work with this unit! The factory stereo system is so crappy that Bluetooth is fine for my use case.

I've since cleaned up the wiring and everything is in the dash now. It's mounted with a iBolt mount that is screwed into a plate in the dash.

I like this so much that I bought a smaller unit and installed it in my Jeep - it was only about $40 on sale and is equally as good!

Thanks. I am aware of them. It's on my list to pick one up. It's more of a commentary on how we are more beholden to the choices auto manufacturers make than we have been in the past.

Usb audio out is supported for supposedly bit perfect output:
The usb isn’t bit perfect as you set the sample rate it outputs and it’s capped at 96khz from memory despite claiming 192khz

It’s likely the best of the androids (curious how a joying and the other more legit manufacturers measure but why has nobody rewritten the android audio layer like fiio and co do with daps… I offered in several emails to work with them and explain what needed doing to develop the unit but got zero back despite lots of people telling me they answered several email addys and a WhatsApp number

Joying is worse: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...g-car-stereo-receiver-head-unit-review.63214/

You and me both. Wasn't there a player that is bit exact on Android mobile at least? I tried Neutron but had the same issue as Roon on DUDU7.
Potentially usb audio player pro…

Also did you check the usb audio output? That’s meant to be a better quality output with up to 96khz (maybe everything gets resampled though… and 192khz didn’t get over 96khz when selected? ) than the onboard which does resample… the external usb will be needed to be used to get uapp to work or neutron I think also… it only controls the driver when it’s external

At this point I may build an iPad cellular (for gps also) into my dash again with a mini 7 512gb… I’ve had iPad mini 5 and 6 in previous cars… 5 being not cellular making me realise they don’t have gps which is nuts imo, heyho… apple quirks!

There are people reporting with UAPP the sample rate is untouched.
Usb audio out is supported for supposedly bit perfect output:
It needs some trickery according to users:

"Here it works. I tested with UAPP, I set all the "Release USB..." options to on. If I play with UAPP the DAC switches to 44,1 kHz (Sample rate of the track). If I press Pause and Home and play with Tidal the DAC switches to 96 kHz and plays music.

I also tried with UAPP as PIP app. It's also working."

You have to pause and after that press Home.
The 96khz limit makes sense for dsp use

That implies you can only get bit perfect output with uapp, and if the phone rings or you want the radio on it’s a faff to make work… why they’ve not just made it adaptive sample rate I’ll never know
Tidal exclusive mode appears to work the same with uapp
