Imagine if a better woofer was used.

Yes, it’s rated sensitivity is a full 6 dB lower, its rated maximum is only 40 watts …
More importantly the tweeter is has much lower distortion

A Mark II with a better midwoofer would really be something

The sensitivity would still be 6dB lower 'cause the 6dB is lost for baffle compensation to make flat frd in the midrange. The SB would take 80-100W in peaks, 40W is long term voice coil power dissipation rating. I use other SB woofers with 150-200W amplifiers and they're all alive. Can't beat the physics (sensitivity vs low frequency extension ;)

At the risk that it has already been asked and I have overlooked it - would the WiiM AMP Pro with 120W into 4 ohms be enough to drive the speakers properly? Because there was talk of a relatively high power requirement - thank you :) @XMechanik

You should be OK. More power is better than underpowered, distorting amp. I never saw burned voice coil from 'clean watts', even if occasionally the level was above rated power. Just remember these are very small speakers, so obviously they won't play loud or reproduce bass as well as larger cones. If you can use them with subwoofer and limit the low frequency signal they receive, then the distortions will also improve.

Slightly off topic but too simple a question to start a different thread:
Im trying to build a speaker myself now (got inspired by this thread) and i've a question about measuring individual drivers.
I have constructed a box but does filling make a difference when measuring the individual drivers? Or can I make my polar measurements without filling the box?

There could be some small effect depending on how much stuffing is used. It's used mainly to damp internal reflections, but if overstuffed, can choke the bass. Why wouldn't you just stuff it first anyway, it's such a trivial task in such a small box...?

Indeed you can't get deep bass response out of any small speaker like this from anyone.
with Purifi 4" drivers and Linkwitz transform possible ?

Pretty sure Amir means it would be difficult to find in a comparable commercial passive speaker.

This shows that Klippel is a sufficient condition for good design and optimisation but not a strictly necessary one. Also another data point to show there is very, very little excuse for DI mismatch in commercial speakers now.

we can trade sensitivity for more bass extension for a given box size (the Hoffman Iron Law). Our little 4” woofer in about 3 liters with passive radiators has F3 around 52Hz.

Amir specified the Purifi woofer for the Directiva r1 speaker and is well aware of the technical tradeoff that could be made. This speaker is targeted to be fairly inexpensive. In the US, a single Purifi woofer is more than a set of drivers for a pair of these speakers. It is a nice driver, but the price puts it in a very different market segment.

perfectly fint. my comment was more to highlight the trade offs dictated by physics when wanting deep bass from a small box.
