Measurements of vintage JVC A-X5 integrated amplifier.

This amp measures really well, significantly better than the Sony TA-F540E I measured a couple of days ago.

It's rated at 70W RMS per channel and comfortably achieves that.

Headline figures are:
75W RMS per channel - both channels driven: THD: 0.0032% THD+N: 0.0037%
1W RMS per channel - both channels driven: THD: 0.0015% THD+N: 0.0075%

There is a slight disparity on one channel with SMPTE IMD measurements - maybe a cap needs replacing...

Impressive. My mother, before she got married, bought the entire rack system that this JVC was part of on hire purchase. She subsequently sold it for a pittance to the rag-and-bone man because she thought it was obsolete. Looking at how the A-X5 performs, it would have made a nice functional display piece if cared-for well.
