What is that, exactly?

It changes the output impedance of the headphone out, its supposed to be for 600Ohm headphones and stuff.

you want low always, unless you doing like 600 or 800ohm headphones.

Just ordered this amp. Newbie here. Can someone who removed jumper post photos of before and after and write how to do it. Completely ignorant and not sure how to complete or if I should being a novice.
Secondarily, what is the gain and is the danger worth the risk?

H-z can be used for 150ohm and above

OK so, far sounds amazing, but lacking in power, thought the Susvara would run good on this headphone, the A90 pushes it better as of right now.

I flipped the switches to the left, all of them to the left for gain, then I have it on Z-Low.

Does that sound correct?

What DAC you used, I push 6.8v to my SA-1 in low-Gain

H-z is to change the output impedance of the headphone output from 1.4 to 10 I think it is. I don't see why you would want to do that unless it was to mess with the sound or to use 600 ohm headphones or something.

I have tested a number of headphones ranging from 60-300ohm, they all sound a lot worst on Hi-Z muddy. You want an output impedance of 2 or less for the vast majority of headphones was my understanding.

What dac are you using at 6.8v? I have tried, the new SMSL dac the 800 dollar one, its little brother su-9, the RME-ADI2 dac fs, and the Matrix MQA dac. IDK what voltage any of them are putting out, I would imagine around 4-5 volts.

I used SMSL M500.

Your RME-ADI2 can output 6.9-7V
then SU-9 have 5.3V
Matrix have 4.4V

So if you can try RME-ADI2 with max output and check if that give better sence of control to such HE6se also try use jumper to bypass the DC cab :).

I am using the SMSL M400 with the SA-1 at the moment, volume is on 80, I think the m400 does 5.7V. I should try the RME again, what's this jumper bypass? That sounds interesting... I am using the Susvara's, same thing I supposes, still stupidly hard to power.

I can listen with them off the SA-1, its just the gain is not high enough so the volume has to go all the way up to 3 quarters, maybe a little higher for it to be loud enough for me. Has a little less power then my jot2, and a90 I think.

First i used these stupid jumpers then I changed them for small one. However as you see in the picture this will bypass the Capacitors if I'm right.

The following is the maximum input without distortion at the maximum volume. no load:

low gain: XLR 15.5VRMS,RCA 7.4V RMS;
high gain : XLR 4.4VRMS,RCA 2.1VRMS.

When there is a load, it is about 10% lower.

How do you figure out the VRMS on an AMP?

This is for the Susvara, to bring it to listening levels all you need is .5 watts, but the voltage and current need to be higher. How do you find what an amp is rated at?

Anyone know what the difference is? Which would you select when checking power requirements.

Can someone elaborate on why you can have an AMP that does 3W but tops out on volume really low.

Like can have 2 different amps that does 3Watts but have different current and voltage ratings?

I am looking for an amp that pairs well with my Hifiman Arya, a planar, 35ohm and 90db.

I would really like to hear from any SA-1 owners - how much volume range are you getting with your headphones? Are you able to get up around 12 o'clock?

With this trend of ever-greater output power, I really want to avoid a situation where I am only using 15 or 20 percent of the volume range.

Thanks!

I loaned my SA-1 to a friend and he try it with Arya, he listened with High Gain @ 2 o'clock but he used SU-8 v2 which only output 4V and you need 4.4V XLR to get full power. he compared it to THX 789 and prefer SA-1 a lot to THX.

I have the same question but never get to know the answer, I think SA-1 output high current to a point it switch to Class AB at higher volume to be cooler. High current amp tend to be HOT.

Did anyone compared SA-1 to Jotunheim 2? I might purchase SA-1 with the Shenzen 15% March discount...
