Measurements and Review of Schiit Yggdrasil DAC

The fact that head-fi is a vendor-sponsored platform shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I thought that specific post/response was good and professional. It is possible they used a cherry-picked unit for their measurements.

I suppose the source of the post is irrelevant to the validity of the criticism anyway. It just seemed so derivative of a typical schiit response that I literally had trouble imagining someone else organically writing all of it.

Does this DAC sound good? Did you listen to it before or after you measured it?

You may have missed the entire point: What is being discussed is an empirical measurement view of a device.

If there are distortion components, and people prefer that, then there is no harm and indeed no foul. Look at Tube based Amps, zero feed back designs, Vinyl etc...

Again if Amir's measurements are problematic, and we live in a world of 7 + billion people, someone will be able to tear them apart.

Yes this thread was actually started on massdrop... it looks like they copied Soekris.
That's not a Soekris design, its a blatant copy of a DAC module sold by a DIY startup (Sosolar as he is known as) based in China.

The Soekris designer himself has waded into the discussion and acknowledged the "Hibiki" module designer's work.

God, that Head-Fi thread is physically painful to read. It's just endless accusations and sh*tposting by the hurt Schiit fans.

I don't know where amirm summons the patience to defend himself there. Nothing he says will convince those people. Like SBAF, they're a cult.

In all seriousness, why do they need to be convinced?

edit: missed the Cult reference...I see the light now...

Deprogram them; for their own good of course! ;-)

Depends on what you want to convince someone of. If it's the debate point that Amir's measurements are either a correct or incorrect way of going about it I don't mind.

If you like really expensive components with high distortion components, inability to reject noise over the USB bus, poor jitter/re-clocking, I don't mind that at all and not sure I would want to convince anyone about anything.

What I don't think is even debatable is that the measurements do shed light on another facet of equipment of all price points.

Well now they created a NEW yggy thread that ban measurement talk among other things. Just about the same as their Cable section where even the use of the term DBT is censored. Now all the fanboys can circle jerk on each other over the amazing sound of the jzzy without interruption. :p

Sounds like a name for another great product.

The Schiit Circle Jerk with Jizzy USB module.

Sorry have to use old Norse.

It becomes the Schiit Kringla Kippa with Bifast USB module.

Let's let them be guys. It is their forum and they can do what they like. My interest continues to be confirmation of the measurement and performance of this product.

Wow, I just looked at that thread. Not surprised Currawrong started it. Impressions only. Written in huge red letters. Respond only if you have a Yggy. That is too pitiful.

Sorry Amir, I'll say no more about it, but that is really something pitiful.

At least the world now knows why nwavguy was banned from hf.

The truth can hurt. It can send some into paroxysms of mental conflict.

Fascinating discussion... Anyway, it is very revealing to read about possible [not what it seems] interaction on the HF site? At any rate, could some engineer types here expound upon the tested virtues of say the Chord Hugo 2 and / or Chord DAVE components as a desirable alternative? As well, some more recommendations on a dac to build up a really solid desktop setup? Thinking about a Mjolnir Audio Dynalo Mk2 for the amp, researching for the dac. All recommendations appreciated... Note my current dac/amp is the Hugo 2 and COULD just use that set to line-out at what 3V and call it good?

Great site, appreciate having the alternative available that is [not tainted by crass commercialization / site monetization]? =)

I'm not quite sure what your question is? The Hugo 2 was measured here and found to a excellent performer.

NP, In any case I've now been locked out of any further comments to that thread. LOL
