Is there a way to update the W2 firmware with a Mac? I have a bootcamp partition with Windows 7 but no Windows 10 machine at the moment.

A post from 4th of March on an other forum stated that update wasn't possible on Mac at this point. Maybe you guys could run a virtual Win 10 machine or try to find a Windows computer somewhere (the update take few seconds, very simple procedure).

Thanks. Maybe I’ll try Parallels/Win10. I haven’t used Parallels for a while so that will be an upgrade. I’ll probably just use a friends laptop.

Cheers.

I was able to install the firmware update on the W2 using a Macbook: my Bootcamp is Windows 7 and the proceedures outlined in the first post on the head-fi forum worked (despite the poster there saying it only works on Windows 10). So at least with Bootcamp on a Mac, Windows 10 is not needed; Windows 7 was enough to install the firmware.

New firmware installation confirmed by holding the function button in while plugging into macbook; W2 screen showed the new firmware. Sweet!

Cheers.

Not sure what the SPDIF output would be useful for, conversion between USB to SPDIF into a DAC?

Hi all. New here, just googled for dc04....
I have both dc01 and dc04. My setup (and I got an dx220 with amp8....sold it because I found out that I am not a dap guy! I just want to keep it light and simple!):
S10+ (12GB/1TB version running UAPPro) + DC04 + IT07 (with upgraded FiiO silver 4.4 cable and Xelastec tips).
My files are all flac and have a Tidal HiFi subscription for streaming.

I don't know how much better the sound could be, really awsome. And DC04 drains nothing (<2.5% per hour of playback flac files!).

About the dc04 firmware update: there is 2 already v1.0 and v1.1.

Cheers.

is it possible to use this device on PC?
It should be but mybe you need to install some SW to get full potential.
DC04: I needed to install the sw listed at iBasso China website. But now the sound coming through DC04 connected to my Toshiba Kira laptop it's just amazing.

@WolfX-700 you did your measurements before the latest firmware which implement a “Tone 01” or “Tone 02” EQ profile. There is no way to turn these off; it’s one or the other. So, have you measured these ”Tone” EQ profiles on the W2? Do they add distortion, are are they simply some EQ at the bass/mid/treble regions?

Tune01/02 is an algorithm that I gave to Luxury & Precision for free... It does not change the frequency response, distortion, noise... There is almost no change even in the multitone measurement;)

I'm a little confused. What would you use the SPDIF output for?

As a USB->SPDIF interface. But the format is weird (3.5 spdif), good luck finding a working cable if your destination DAC or amp doesn't have a 3.5 spdif input but a RCA spdif input.

By the way, just got W2 today, a bit soon to give a definitive feedback, but sounds like a (pricey) winner/keeper in dongles dac/amp category ;)

It's a common connector, Mini TOSLINK; I have at least a couple of cables with Mini TOSLINK on one end and TOSLINK on the other for these kind of scenarios. Until recently, all Macs' 3.5mm headphone output jacks were also Mini TOSLINK compatible, and that's actually how my now-ancient 2011 Mac mini is connected to my Geshelli Labs ENOG2 Pro.

Yep, I know (chromecast audio, mini disc etc.) but I don't think on W1/W2 it is a mini toslink connector, that's what's weird (no red light visible inside the port with spdif on, same with mini toslink cable attached, no light at the tip of the optical fiber). I tried this cable : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/3224...earchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_, no luck).
