Hello,

I saw a listing of mcintosh CR12 pre amp and MC 7106 on ebay for $1100.

Should i consider it?

Also if yes can i connect wiim streamer to the cr12 preamp?

Thanks for your valuable inputs.

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. There are assumptions but the WiiM has analog line-out and preamps normally have multiple line-inputs.

Mid 1990s, they are pretty old even for SS Mcintosh equipment.

I've owned a lot of Mac gear but never a CR/anything. Very early multichannel It may be the first they ever made.

Personally I wouldn't, unless you have a handy repairman stashed somewhere. Neither piece will be easy to find oem parts for if they lose a board.

Regards

If the CR12 is going to be shipped to you, it may arrive with a broken glass if the seller doesn't pack it correctly. Also the panel lamps will likely be out on both pieces. You can pretty much be certain that one of both will need servicing. You should factor the above in when making a offer.

How does it compare to the modern pre amps? In terms of sound quality

It's been a while since I last heard one, so I don't recall. The CR12 uses 5532 IC's in it's signal path which is typical of McIntosh then and now. You can always resale the CR12, to make up a bit of the cost, if you don't like it.

umm... no, not really.

There's one taking up a fair amount of space in my basement, along with its partnered C-28 preamp.

I'm old enough to have sold those things. The problem with that series of power amps is that they can require a great deal of work and/or $$$ to repair if/when they fail. This U-Toob series documents one technician's effort to whip a pretty devastated 2100 back into working condition.

Should i go for mc7106 or buy a new emotiva or monolith?
