Master Thread: Are measurements Everything or Nothing?

I didn’t personally receive it. But a Conex showed up, and there was a lot of talk, then it was empty. Combat zone. Things evaporated.
IC. I imagine sticky tape is used a lot by soldiers affixing stuff to their vests?

That said, I was not involved with any contract or system including toilet seats, so can't comment on that one...
One of my friends was. The price included tooling (molds) which was amortized over a very small number of items.

Anecdote which will only be comprehensible to Boomers: I was asked to develop a composite structure for an aircraft that had some specific electromagnetic requirements. I got the project done in less than two weeks, discovering that if I applied about 20-30 Angstroms of gold to the surface, it worked perfectly. My boss and the contracting agency rejected it.
"Why?"
"The gold."
"But the whole structure might use $30 worth of gold."
"Yes, but when Proxmire goes on TV to blast the 'gold-plated airplane,' that's what people will remember."

Or black market. I didn’t say that.
Wowow. I grew up with a dood and we got along really well. I hired him for 2 job positions that I needed filled and we got along really well. Anywayyy.. He left to join the army and ended up a gun operator in a tank and then he was in working charge of the supply depot stuff. So I met him one day standing at a bus stop and we caught up on what each other is doing. He told me that the army supply depots across Canada had been controlled by crooked operators. Boots, clothing etc all shipped around until the paper trail was long and forgotten and then they would sell it.

To me it seems like more jealousy than anything because my amplifiers were over $10,000.
Natch. One obnoxious fallacy off the bat.

For some reason, a user who had posted a few pages ago decided to reach out to me via email out of the blue without me having any interaction with them in this thread (or elsewhere) to prove an agenda of how well their Class A amps are, yadda yadda.

Subjectivity in this hobby can get very passionate apparently.

I did volunteer to lend an amp for a proper blind A/B test, though.

I have noticed some correlation between the 'everything matters' group and a tendency to emotional volatility although there are exceptions to that.

Also a correlation between 'everything matters' and absence of an academic background. That is to say, these are people who have not been trained to view any given topic objectively and dispassionately. Again, there are exceptions to this.

Part of the issue with audio is that all of us are passionate about the art/music, and how that experience makes us feel is important to us. Extending that feeling to the equipment can seem like a natural progression.

I think I know who that was. He was very annoying in troll type ways. I think he was serious and not intentionally trolling. I was suggesting class D amps and yours specifically.

After he flamed out, he tried creating another account as well, because this is just so important.

People do get passionate about their gear.

I've changed my mind ... Measurements done with good process (like the process I've come to understand across this site) can tell us so much about a piece of gear that the value of quality measurement analysis can't be overstated.

For headphones and speakers, corrective EQ can transform otherwise mediocre performers into recommendable items. But knowing exactly where to use corrective EQ and whether it will work should come most accurately and primarily from measurements, and then secondarily from subjective listening tests.

For audio gear, quality and in depth measurements are quite simply invaluable insights into the inner workings of the gear and can tell us if a piece of gear will reproduce sound cleanly and accurately.

I dunno - I stay away from the thread for just a few days, and another troll shows up, and creates an account just to achieve his "banned from ASR" badge.

Boring 10 a penny behaviour. Nothing new, nothing original. Just the same old same old.

He gets a huge  from me.

EDIT : Ha - and then he gave up within hours of arriving. Weak-sauce as well as boring.
