Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamond D5: New Diamond Series for the 60th Anniversary
Bowers & Wilkins introduces the 800 Series Diamond D5. The new high-end lineup includes seven speakers for stereo and home theater and will launch in September.
To celebrate its 60th company anniversary, Bowers & Wilkins is refreshing its iconic 800 Series Diamond. The D5 generation marks the fifth iteration of the series featuring diamond dome tweeters and includes seven models designed for both stereo and home theater setups.
The series targets demanding audiophiles as well as professional studios and music production facilities where the most precise audio reproduction is required.
According to Bowers & Wilkins, this new generation succeeds the D4 series and has been acoustically, mechanically, and electrically overhauled. Upgrades include stiffer cabinets, redesigned plinths, new finishes, and components derived from the Signature series.
Seven Models for Stereo and Home Theater
The 800 Series Diamond D5 begins with the
805 D5, a two-way bookshelf speaker. Above it sit four three-way floorstanding speakers: the
804 D5,
803 D5,
802 D5, and the
801 D5, the latter serving as the flagship of the new generation.
For home theater applications, Bowers & Wilkins complements the series with two center-channel speakers. The
HTM81 D5 is designed to pair with the 801 D5 and 802 D5, while the
HTM82 D5 is tailored for setups featuring the 803 D5 and 804 D5. Matching stands for the 805 D5 and the center models are also part of the lineup.
Redesigned Cabinets with Space Frame Bracing
A core technical highlight of the D5 series is the further stiffened cabinet construction. The new
Enhanced Matrix builds upon the extremely rigid internal matrix bracing of the previous 800 Series Diamond.
Stability has been significantly increased in the sensitive area surrounding the drivers on the front baffle: thick aluminum profiles precisely encase each driver opening and are additionally reinforced on the back with ribs.
The
Space Frame Bracing system is bolted directly to the rear panel and the inner matrix construction of each D5 cabinet. Its parallel aluminum struts stiffen the housing from within, minimizing vibrations and resonances to deliver an even more realistic, three-dimensional soundstage.
The top plate has also been redesigned. Made of aluminum, it features thicker ribs and additional mounting points. An upgraded Connolly leather element combined with damping materials sourced from the 800 Series D4 Signature further reduces unwanted noise from the adjacent aluminum plate.
Additionally, the floorstanding speakers utilize overhauled aluminum plinths engineered with constrained layer damping and tuned mass damping.
New Details for Midrange and High Frequencies
For the first time in this series, Bowers & Wilkins has equipped the
804 D5 with a dedicated aluminum enclosure for its FST Continuum cone midrange driver. This is designed to better isolate the midrange unit and decouple it with greater mechanical definition. This brings a technical solution previously reserved for the larger models with the
Turbine Head (the iconic teardrop-shaped midrange enclosure) down to the smallest floorstander in the lineup.
The diamond dome tweeters feature an evolved mesh grille derived from the 801 D4 Signature. According to Bowers & Wilkins, it remains rigid but is acoustically more transparent.
The midrange, mid-bass, and bass drivers also adopt motor systems from the Signature series to reduce distortion.
Crossovers, Wiring, and Terminals
All D5 models receive redesigned crossovers and new internal wiring harnesses. Bowers & Wilkins highlights the use of higher-quality cables and binding posts. For the stereo models, the crossover is mounted on a solid aluminum plate assembly connected to the cabinet and the Space Frame Bracing.
These engineering measures focus less on visible features and more on mechanical stability and electrical refinement.
Four Finishes for the New Generation
Bowers & Wilkins has noticeably updated the aesthetics of the 800 Series Diamond D5. Customers can choose between
Stealth Black,
Warm White,
Light Walnut, and
Dark Walnut. The Dark Walnut variant is inspired by the 801 Abbey Road Limited Edition and replaces Satin Walnut.
- Stealth Black combines dark surfaces with matching metal accents.
- Warm White is a warmer evolution of the previous white finish, paired with champagne-colored accents.
- Light Walnut also receives champagne-colored metal elements and a color-coordinated Turbine Head.
Debut at HIGH END Vienna 2026
Bowers & Wilkins is showcasing the new 800 Series Diamond D5 at the
HIGH END Vienna 2026 trade show. The speaker series can be viewed at the Harman/Sound United booth on Level 2, Room G1.
This debut places the new D5 generation directly within an exhibition environment tailored specifically to high-quality HiFi and high-end products, giving interested visitors the opportunity to experience the redesigned cabinet shapes, finishes, and model sizes in person.
