Drop has the SMSL SP200 for $140 which is a mind blowing low price. I have one of these, but didn't think they'd ever get this low (bought mine used for $125 so don't feel too bad seeing this sale.

Would the JBL 590's be a large improvement to my listening pleasure? I know Big speakers make big sounds but are they good sounds?
Not familiar with your Pioneers, but I have the 590's and think they are really good, and extremely tough to beat for the sale price. They can be a little bright (mine are pretty flat at the MLP, rather than the down-sloping response most people prefer), but that is easily remedied with a little EQ - even a basic tone control would probably get you close. Then again, if your room is more absorbent than mine, it might not be an issue for you. Do a little searching on this forum, and you'll find plenty of other members with positive things to say about the whole Studio 5xx series. With JBL's free shipping and free returns, it's hard to go wrong.

howdy and happy Thanksgiving. Well I see those JBL 590 towers for 1/2 off. I have Pioneer FS-52 towers that I like a lot. Would the JBL 590's be a large improvement to my listening pleasure? I know Big speakers make big sounds but are they good sounds? Regards Richard

Keep in mind that the JBL 590 towers are quite large, physically. Do you have enough space for them?
The 580 towers are also on sale and are a much more manageable size, in my opinion.

Also, for about the same price as a pair of 590 towers, you could get a pair of 580 towers plus TWO of the 550P subwoofers.

Starke has their SW12 12" subwoofer on sale for $419 and their SW15 15" subwoofer for $539. Both tested very well.

Really a function of space and budget. Substantive and room filling both size wise and sound wise is how I describe the 590s subjectively (I do own a pair of these as fronts in my HT). Certainly not for near field listening as the twitters are higher than other 5xx models so they need space, yet they are for me appropriate for the room size ~700sq ft.
The 530s which are in the same family were tested by our host and they did well for passives.

Tempting.
I just tried the demo and hit a snag though.
Is it just me, or do they correct their headphones for a flat pinnae-less target? It made my K371's sound hollowed out, lo-fi, and lifeless compared to my non-corrected 306Pmkii's. I was able to re-add the pinna gain with the custom EQ that you can apply on top of the correction, but I'm not sure about using this for headphones. I'm sure the room correction for speakers is far more robust, and I may buy it for that. I'm also happy that they provide a virtual soundcard driver to host the software globally in windows.

Hello yes and thanks for the informative and kind replies from Another Bob, Beave and Lawmaker09. I was holding out for the Infinity R263 that sweetchaos rates very highly. The R263's are out of stock though, maybe the JBL's would be better anyway, anyone have an opinion? Kind regards Richard

For Canadians:

This is the day I’ve been waiting for, since last Christmas.

Last year at around this time, we could buy studio monitors between 10% to 15% off, from:
- acclaim-music
- avshop
- musiccitycanada
- musiquegagne

This year, I see that 2 resellers are having a discount sale for studio monitors for Black Friday.
1. avshop.ca offers a 10% off everything, including studio monitors

2. musiccitycanada.com offers between 10% to 30% off most items. But limited to up to 15% off studio monitors.

I've added various studio monitors to cart to see their discounts:
Mfg% discount
Mackie0% :(
Genelec
Presonus
Neumann
Focal (some, not all)
KRK
JBL
Adam
Yamaha
Kali
10% :)

To get the deal:
1. avshop.ca has an automatic 10% discount applied at checkout, nothing needs to be done
2. musiccitycanada.com, you need to apply coupon BLACKFRIDAY at checkout to see the discount applied

If you haven't purchased a set of good studio monitors yet...it's time. ;)

If you're thinking of Genelecs:
1. musiccitycanada.com seems to only carry 80x0/83x0 series of Genelecs. Not the Ones.
2. avshop.ca carries 80x0/83x0 series. But more importantly The Ones. 8331, 8341, 8351 (but not 8361, perhaps a custom order can be made? not sure)

2021-11-26 EDIT:
After checking back into the same resellers, they all seem to match each other now, with 10% discount:
1. Economik.com, discount auto-applied
2. MoogAudio.com, with coupon FRIDAY10
3. musiquegagne.com with coupon BLACKFRIDAY21

Studio Monitorprior to BFon BF
Neumann KH 310AWas $2860/ea prior to BF.On BF, it's listed as $2975/ea, and with 10% discount, it's $2677.50/ea. Overall a 6% discount compared to prior to BF. Not a bad deal.
Genelec 8331AWas $??/ea prior to BF.On BF:
1. Studio Economik is showing $2400/ea. Best deal.
2. Other resellers show $2780/ea, and with 10% discount, it's $2501/ea. Get from Economik instead.
Don't know overall savings over previous price. Probably a good deal.
Genelec 8341AWas $??/ea prior to BF.On BF, it's listed as $3125/ea, and with 10% discount, it's $2812/ea. Don't know overall savings over previous price. Probably a good deal.
Genelec 8351BWas $4325/ea prior to BF.On BF, pricing is weird and I see no discounts:
1.Long-mcquade shows regular price of $4325/ea.
2.Most other resellers show $5000/ea, and with 10% discount, it's $4500/ea. Which is a worse deal than prior to BF. Haha.
Genelec 8361BWas CDN$5350/ea prior to BF.On BF, it's listed as $5350/ea, and with 10% discount, it's $4815/ea. Overall savings 10% from prior to BF. of Great deal. Great deal.
JBL 708PWas $2780/ea prior to BF.On BF, it's listed as $2782/ea, and with 10% discount, it's $2504/ea. Overall savings 10% from prior to BF. of Great deal.

Initially when I posted this deal, musiccitycanada.com had 15% off for JBL, Adam, Yamaha, and Kali. However, on 2021-11-26, they changed their pricing to only be 10% off for those brands.

Roon Labs have the 3 months for a dollar Black Friday deal, same as last year. Now I get to experiment with my new setup!

EDIT: Link is https://roonlabs.com no need for coupons etc.

So I am looking into the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition
Cheapest I've found is €1606 incl VAT. Anyone can do me one better? :D
USA: I purchased the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition for $1640 (with no sales tax) last year from Dale Pro Audio (www.daleproaudio.com). Sales rep was Tim Finnegan ([email protected]). That was not a "black friday" deal; just his quoted price.

My experience with Tim has been excellent on all of the "pro audio" gear that I have purchased through him, including Focal Clear Pro headphones,
beyerdyamic DT 770 PRO 250, Shure MV7-K MV7 microphone, Ashly LX-308B mixer (great desk stereo pre-amp!), and Neumann KH120A speakers plus L65 stands. Price on everything has been as good or better than I could find elsewhere.

Was debating to buy the S300 MKII for son and wife for Christmas. Saved me 25%. WOW. (ordered)
I pre ordered the light oak S400 MKII two days ago. Was cheaper than the White version. Now white cheaper. Oh my.
