have noticed the HE1000 v2 is now selling for just £839.
considering the original model retailed once at close to £3k, this seems an incredible deal.
or were we being ripped off initially?

either way i am tempted

This is somewhat standard for hifiman. High cost when released, then drops significantly as newer models are releases or just as a design gets old. Ex; The Edition XS was ~$700-800cad when released and now it's 299cad, even lower sometimes or in USD. So they're likely working with high margins, or those initial R&D, tooling, etc. It was the same thing with 400i, and will likely also be true for the future.

So, 'ripped off initially'? Guess that's in the eyes of the beholder! You can read https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/hifiman-edition-xs.27903/page-54 about impressions comments, around mid-page for price discussion

UDiscoverMusic is offering 30% off site wide, with free shipping on orders over $50.

I have ordered twice from them and had no issues. They have a good selection of most genres (though sadly lacking Blues). The standout from my most recent purchase of CDs was Keith Jarrett At The Blue Note.

Crutchfield (USA) has the Revel PerformaBe F228Be on sale, in metallic silver only, for $3000 each. That is almost half-off the $5500 msrp. The site says price is good until 4 Jan. Fyi, this price is as low as these speakers were ever advertised even before the USA tariff issues.

ListenUp lists an open box white pair of Revel F228Be at $5999. You may be able to get them even lower:
