Got excited for a moment, thought the unit might be smaller in form factor. Than again that’s probably asking for too much for something with 5 ch output.

This is somewhat standard for hifiman. High cost when released, then drops significantly as newer models are releases or just as a design gets old. Ex; The Edition XS was ~$700-800cad when released and now it's 299cad, even lower sometimes or in USD. So they're likely working with high margins, or those initial R&D, tooling, etc. It was the same thing with 400i, and will likely also be true for the future.
