Stumbled on this today - super high fidelity wood records made with a desktop laser cutter.
Hackaday article. One of the commenters suggests a whopping 30dB SNR. It is clever how he figured out how to get there though, wonder how much longer before someone refines this into something viable. I suppose it will mostly depend on the laser dot size on the machine.
