Master AI (Artificial Intelligence) Discussion/News Thread

There will be short term and medium term pain, that is for sure. Then there will be a complete paradigm shift in our economy. I suspect that all will work less a week and the quality of life will be better. There will be new types of jobs that we can't even imagine about with this new economy.
But.. different from dotcom boom... housing boom...? how so.
Yes eventually all of these supposed discontinuties seem to just blend into normal linear progression.

What's wrong with the dotcom boom? It boomed, bursted and then boomed again as big as anyone can dreamed of at the start of the boom.

In different ways that were anticipated. And my prediction is that this will happen with the AI boom too. That's all.
If you ask me, there will be a lesser chance of a major burst compared to the dotcom burst. There will be a pullback because the general population are still struggling to adopt, not because the power of AI isn't there, but because the general population just can't envision the art of the possible.

But but but.. the dotcom bubble was not about consumers, it was business to business... just like this AI stuff. Watch and wait.

if it can roll me a joint I’m all in though,
To me the paradox is we're predictably heading into a world where the drive for further productivity and the drive for higher collective quality of life do not longer go hand in hand... but collide and conflict.
revisiting the algorithmic pricing and dynamic pricing

Perhaps our best chance is the first self aware self replicating AGI takes over the world and imposes forced utopia.

:p

Have you ever wondered what makes an AI model call a spade a spade? I mean what in the AI model's training links the image of a spade to the word "spade"? It turns out that there is some supervised learning involved.

I love Spotify and it's business model :D

I know you appreciate style points so ‘its business model’ is what you were aiming for, note that ‘AI’ autocorrect often gets it wrong.

When one needs to point out grammar and spelling error after some sprinkle of salt.

As it pertains to AI adoption mentioned earlier. Spotify is a great case study, they dominate the streaming service, many attribute it to the AI recommendation engine they have over their competitors.

An example when a business lead with AI.

So Google integrated Gemini into Maps....

I start Maps on Android on my phone in the car. Tell it where I want to go. Then I watch it echo that in text as it usually does. But then kept writing and writing! Couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Then I realized, it was transcribing the talk show that was on the radio in my car!!! Stupid thing. I tried again and did it again. Had to turn off the radio to stop it. And even then, had to push a stop button as it would otherwise just sit there waiting for me to say more!

I am assuming the AI engine now wants to capture full conversations so kept listening. In the past, it would just stop when it got the address/place you wanted to go. I guess now I have to learn how to tell it to do the thing I use maps for at the end of each query. :(

I am convinced Google doesn't do any usability testing of its software. Something like this should have been caught in testing.

That would depend very much on what the iteration learned from and who taught it.

Utopia is utopia - maximised quality of life for all. At least for those who don't mind not having a choice in it. :-)

There are different interpretations depending on how you define 'quality of life' and whether 'all' extends beyond people. Then there's the issue of removing those who do mind not having a choice in it as a means to achieving this utopia.

We could send them all to Mars. I have a few names of people who should be on the spaceship - though it would need to be very big. We could call it the B Ark. :)
