Mark Levinson 390s remote defect

Good morning everyone, I'd like your opinion/help on a problem I've encountered. I have two hi-fi systems in two different locations: both have a Mark Levinson CD player, one with a 37 transport and a 360s DAC, and the other with an integrated 390s player. The remote control for the latter has stopped working, and after routine checks (batteries, LED sensor working), the situation hasn't changed. I tried using the 390s with the 37's remote, and that works perfectly. What could have happened? It's as if the player no longer recognizes the remote control signal.

You say that the 390S responds to the remote for the 37. That being so, there can be nothing wrong with the 390S itself.

It's 30 years since I sold my 390S and it was already pretty old, so a failure of the remote is perhaps not unlikely. Try ML themselves as they may be able to source a suitable remote, or look for a replacement used 390S remote, or perhaps buy a "reaning remote" and teach it commants from your 37 memote . I guess the 37 will provide the essential commands for the 390S, although I suppose volume would still be a problem. I hope you find a solution.

PS - Look at your 390S User Guide. There's a section "Using Learning Remote Controls" that described how a learning remote can be taught by the 390S. T

Also, the main "Remote Control" section may offer a solution. The only thing I can think is that the remote may be switcheable from one IR interface to an alternative (offered to prevent 2 remotes used in an audio system from arguing with one another) and perhaps you have accidentally mis-matched the 390S from its remote. Unlikely but worth checking the maunal.

The remote will have failed for one of a few reasons, the emitter has gone, quite likely, its lost its codes, very unlikely, pcb tracks have degraded due to rot, quite likely, one of the small capacitors in the pcb has failed, very likely.

I regularly repair remotes from friends, its most always a small capacitor or pcb corrosion. Swap the small cap, wire over the pcb corrosion with a bit of thin solid core wire.

Thanks so much for your help, would it be possible to find a circuit diagram of the 390s remote control?

Or maybe buy a new one? It looks different, but will work
